How much do you tend to tip a dealer if you win a pot?
I play 1/2 NL...and if I had to guess I would give a dollar for every 20 bucks I won. It might be 2 sometimes, but I never tip more than 5.

One white chip is standard. Tipping the floor is good too if you become a regular because you'll get better service and if there's ever a dispute, they'll have your back.

One white chip is good but diff throw in more if u win a big pot. U don't want to be cheap and then have a ruling go agianst u.

one white chip on any pot won that makes it to the flop and is more than like 8 bucks, and two bucks for any huge pot. people generally throw a red on big suckouts, but fuck suspicion, i'm not having 9 dollars raked out of my pot.
another piece of very good tipping advice is to throw one white chip if someone's berrating the dealer/a huge hoopla happens over rules or something like that and he/she handles it well. a dealer REALLY appreciates that one little dollar as a token of "i think you're doing perfectly fine" when they feel like the whole table hates him/her

^^ This. I almost never tip if it doesn't make it to the flop. And I generally never tip above 10%. But I like that Idea Surviva, tipping when others are getting pissed at him.
I have seen some drunk lunatics tip retarded amounts cause they think that the dealer contributed to their luck. Like upwards of 20% of the pot. Either crazy generous or crazy drunk... either way, crazy.

The casino I go to has 50c chips that I used to use (haven't been there in over a year) when I'd win a really small pot, like raise pre, cbet, take it down. If the pot is over $10-15 I'd tip $1 and if I won a stack or something $2.
There's really no reason to be tipping $5 at 1/2 imho. Call me a cheap ass, but you're basically burning money/killing your winrate.

Nothing on a small pot. $1 for any pot where my profit is $10 or more. (So yeah, I don't tip if the pot if $12 but half of it was mine). $2 on a big pot.
If I win a few small pots in a row and the same dealer is still there, I'll tip a $1 when the total profit gets over $10.

I'm starting to change my tune on tipping the dealer to be honest. The dealers at the Hollywood Casino down the road start out at like $18/hr not counting tips. If they deal 25-30 hands per hour and get tipped an average of $1 per pot, they're pulling in over $40/hr before taxes. That shit flies in bigger cities but not in the blue collar Midwest.
The dealer is just a human RNG. Plus, tips should be earned, not expected. Like why are we expected to tip the dealer when they're just doing their job? This whole tipping thing has gotten completely out of control and I'm not just talking about casinos.
If we're tipping anyone, it should be the floor. They're the ones who are going to settle a dispute. They're the ones who can get you a good seat next to a whale. They're the ones who can text or call us degenerates when there's a ultra-juicy game going down. The dealers are just the middlemen. So, tip your floor person more, and the dealer less.
Also, this is not about being "cheap" because I'm not. I just think the flow of the tips should be going to someone that can actually help you rather than someone that's just doing their job. Go above and beyond, sure throw them a tip. But expecting one for dealing me two cards is hardly tip worthy imo.

It also depends on the casino. At my local casino the dealers make junk hourly, like $8 per hour + tips. So tips have a big impact on what they earn.
Also, I do agree that tips should be earned. The casino I go to has a pool of 5-6 poker dealers and 1 out of them is amazing. I tip him much more than the other dealers because he is super fast, rarely makes mistakes, and is fun at the table. The slow dealers that take forever counting side pots, have to always call the floor to ask questions, deal 15 hands per hour, etc, don't receive more than the bare minimum from me.

At most Nevada casinos dealers actually make about $2.40/hour plus tips, so tip your dealers.

Nevada sucks in that respect. I have a hard time equating a dealer to that of a waitress. A dealer sits there and deals cards and does some 1st grade math. They're not running back and forth with food and drinks and assuring you're satisfaction every five minutes. It's not the dealers fault it's the casino and society in general. No way in hell should an employer get away with paying them $2.40/hr because their job description in general does not constitute tips. This whole tipping thing has gotten completely out of control these days - everyone from the gardener to the oil change guy wants a tip just for doing their job.

Tipping seems to be something expected most of the time and we even add it in as part of our BB/100 math when you play live. I tip when the dealer is doing a great job and I don't when they aren't. If the dealer is personable and keeps the game moving, the fish are happy and we are happy. If he sucks and the table is mellow and the fish are focused on the play then the dealer is failing, simple as that. no tip for you!

I am somewhat of a cheap bastard, but I tip for service provided. It's pretty rare that a dealer will do his job or something in particular that is bad enough for me to stop toking him.
I tip basically $1 for any pot that's $10+, $2 on monster $200+ pots. I'll also tip a dealer (right before they get up) for random good dealer/service things during their down. Could be anything from getting keeping the game swift, tactfully dealing with a dinkhole player, or some other good service aspect.
Under my system the average and mediocre dealers still get a good amount of tips, but the ones who do a much better job get more. Seems fair to me.
