i am having a conflict of interests here ,
my greedy/cuthroat poker side says do not tip your dealer .
my touchy/feely/sympathetic side says tip the damn dealer .
how many of you tip ? i just finished a 6hr 3/6limit session where my profit was 20$ . if i had tipped a dollar after each win , i would still be behind . am i a scumbag for never tipping when the rest of the table throws chips like chumpchange ?

Tip your dealer. You cannot/should not be playing the 3/6 game for a huge profit. You can/should be playing it to have a fun experience playing live poker with minimal risk to losing a large sum of money. Tipping the dealer can only help to enhance this experience.

I play 1/2 and 2/5 nl and I tip the dealer. If I double up I give them at least 3 dollar tip and it just ranges. Plus they enjoy the tips

I have never played live, but I think the "you should tip the dealer when you win a decent/big pot" thing is the way to go. I do not think someone should tip the dealer if they are losing buckets of money if they are trying to play seriously.

There's a sticky in the B&M forum about this. I play live sometimes, and I think you need to tip the dealer for any reasonable pot. The only time I don't tip is when I pick up the blinds and maybe a limp or two. Any other time I tip $1 for a small pot, $2-$3 for a medium pot, and if I win a massive pot I MAY tip $5, but probably $3. Not tipping seems to me to be bad form. These guys don't control what cards you get, but a good one WILL control the pace of the game, help out noobs, etc. They deserve tips.

This is what I do too. If I get the blinds, or a limper or two + blinds, I don't tip unless it happens repeatedly (which it doesn't at those stakes) then I'll throw him a chip every few times. If I win a real pot I tip at least a buck, never more than 2. Crotchety old timers will actually argue with you if you don't tip every single won pot no matter how small. Ignore them. Dealers make a crappy hourly wage, but you'll see that a large majority of players tip them. Figure a buck a hand for 25 hands an hour and they do allright. No reason to feel sorry for them. No reason to stiff them either.

I usually play the 2/2 LHE out at hardrock tampa, and I'm friends with a lot of the dealers out there. I mean, granted, they only make $3.50 an hour, so the tips is how they make their living. I've seen plenty of regulars come in, and when they are dealt the spade Royal flush and hit the jackpot, they tip the dealer good.
I was there one time when the Omaha Hi/Lo jackpot was at $17,000 biggest in the casino's history. One of the regulars hit it, Tipped the dealer a grand, and every other dealer working in there that night a $50. I've seen a jackpot winner chop a $21,000 jackpot with the dealer. Biggest tip I've ever given a dealer was a chop pot for a $150 pot. I was already up $200 and I've been catching great hands that night from that dealer. I told him before the hand was dealt, that I would chop the pot if I won. Couple weeks later, I saw him at the gas station, and he bought me a pack of cigs. Tipping gives good karma imo. Hope that helps....just don't always chop the pot...haha

Im an amateur so yeah i tip the dealer. But if i was playing professionally to make a living and was putting in lot of hours i would rarely tip because if u added it up at the end of the year it would be quite a bit.

ok look at it like this. they make min wage and live and die off their tips. if they werent there you wouldnt have a casino/card room to play at--most pots in 3/6 limit are between 10-75 dollars so whats a buck or two out of that--

I'm generally against tipping. See: http://www.flopturnriver.com/phpBB2/...ic.php?t=48514
But I think where there is a social contract between you and the dealer that he's going to get tipped (because his employer is remunerating him on the assumption he's getting tipped), then as long as he's doing a competent job, you should. To use an interesting comparison, not tipping in this context would be to take a bargirl or streetgirl to your hotel room in Thailand, without having actually agreed on price but with the mutual expectation that she will be remunerated within reason (it's just how things often work over there - the most common situation this crops up is if you flirt with a girl working in a bar and they "like" you and go home with you, it's a show of respect and trust and affection on their part that you're going to do the right thing - outside of bars it's a lot more ambiguous though)... and you fuck her and then you don't pay her. I know for sure many don't actually check you've paid (the custom is to discretely put the money into their purse while they're cleaning up). What I'm trying to say is that to not tip is to use their services without paying. I believe that will lead to bad karma and cold cards.
Factoring in the cost of tipping + rake + transport/parking the game may just not be profitable. In that case, don't play there. Vote with your feet and play online with rakeback

that is total silliness. im not saying go broke doing it but if you cant afford to park/drive to the casino, pay the rake, and most of all tip your dealer you probably shouldnt be gambling

isn't that what I said?
Except I replaced "gambling" with live play. And yeah, silliness is where it is. When I'm stressing myself over playing good poker and making good investments all the time, you can be sure that the last thing on my mind is to respond seriously to threads of this quality.

I usually always tip, except when dealers are extraordinarily sloppy, (like this one older lady I had in AC, would call wrong bet amounts, continue dealing when people were thinking, ) not just one or 2 mistakes, it was pretty horrible.
I think she may have gotten 2-3 dollars from our table.
