I like to take notes of my opponents and in a few cases they have even helped me.

My problem is I don't really know what to put down in my notes and the information I put into them is changing for every new player I take notes on because I get new ideas of what is useful.

What I would like to have is some kind of "standard" way to take notes so it will be much faster to read and understand what I have typed down about a player when I meet him again weeks later. It would help greatly if someone would share some of their notes so I can see what they look like. Of course I don't need to see who the note is about, just what it contains.

Thanks.

i like to take the following notes:

preflop or postflop - preflop players are more adept at betting preflop....and postflop players are better at betting after the flop

skill level - i actually have developed a few general categories since i've began to use this....(ex. skill level 1 - total fish....checks when has something, bets when doesn't, skill level 2 - bets when doesn't have anything, checks/slowplays when does, etc etc) i currently have roughly 10 skill levels that i've encountered. skill level is probably the most important note to take...since it tells you what the opponent is capable of. for the most part, if you can't tell what they're doing - they're probably at a higher level than you (or a manaic :P ).

tendencies - does he overvalue aces? pocket pairs? does he chase (and how much is he willing to pay to chase)? does he love to bluff? does he play with any two cards? limper or raiser? does he love suited cards? loves to draw for straights? what kind of cards does he play (only high in the deck? or high with a few low suited connectors?)

general playstyle - is he able to switch gears? does he go on tilt easily? if he is not able to switch gears - what playstyle does he use?
