So, I started playing NLHE live poker again for the first time in a long time and @ this home game, some of the people like to "stradle", which they said they saw on high stakes hold 'em games on the Game Show Network. In short, the person after the big blind will declare they are "stradling" and put in twice the big blind and they become "the button" on the first round of betting.
My first thought was this was basically a "raise in the dark" and I didn't have a problem with it, but when it was called all the way back to the "stradler", he then had the option to raise it AGAIN. I was like "wtf". They said that's how it worked. I did some research and from what I can tell, this is a gimmick typically only used in high stakes games (and everyone has to be in agreement to use it) to create action and I think everyone @ the home game is just doing it because they saw it on TV. I personally think it's stupid and was a little miffed that someone liked to do it just about every time when I was in the small blind.
Anyhoo, this is mostly just a rant thread for me but I also wondered if any others have run into this and your thoughts.

Yes, all the time. It always baffled me that someone would want to voluntarily put in another blind that is actually bigger than the big blind. Live players are bad enough but add straddling and it becomes less poka, more nut camping.

I don't see what the big deal is. I play live poker at the casino and no not everyone has to be in agreement to it. And yes you can stradle anytime you want to. I was at a table where the agreement was one person would straddle and the next person would straddle, then the next till everyone at the table straddled 1 time. Its a fun way to get more money in the pot and its fine.

In order for someone to straddle in a cash game I believe everyone must agree to it.. so if you do not think it puts you at a advantage to play with a straddle then oppose it being allowed.

So, is a straddle different than a blind min-raise?

Well I guess not at my casino. I sit down at a 1/2 $5 bring in game, and about 3 hands into my session a guy puts out 15 over the line while dealer is putting cards in the auto shuffle, and dealer announces straddle. But noone complains about it.

yeah because if everyone calls and it gets back round to you, you can raise.
