local casino 1/2 no limit (vancouver)

I lost a pretty big hand yesterday with ace/10 suited. I was in late postion and there was a couple limpers. I just limped in and the blinds checked.

flop is like 10/7/3 rainbow. turn and river bring blanks I bet out the flop and turn villain (BB) pushed his short stack in. He is very LAG... so I figure I have him beat. He turns over 7/3 suited and takes down the pot. Yes I know BB can have any two cards, it was late and I was getting tired.

anyway, problem I am having is... should I raise any decent hand from any postion ? (A10, KJ, QJ, KQ, AJ, AQ) to get out the junk ? problem I am having is the max buy in is $200 and I want to preserve my stack. I can't small ball it and get the junk out, If I raise to $6.. they still call with 72off so $10 dollars is like the min raise which is a decent % of my stack to raise with mediocre hands I mentioned above. I normally miss the flop with these hands and then fold them.

any advice is welcome and appreciated

Yes, here is your problem.

You should just be getting in your money good and have multiple buy-ins on you.

In the hand you described I would have raised pre-flop to at least $10. You have a good hand that figures to make a lot of one pairs that you will want to get money in with on the flop or turn. Raising it up pre-flop will hurt the implied odds of more speculative hands, widen your raising range (set-up action on your big pairs) and allow you to just stick it in when you think you're good without worrying about giving too much action to speculative hands that hit big.

ya I know, your right... I am just scared to raise with those sort of hands because I want to preserve my $200 buy in. I always seem to miss the flop, then I think I lost $10 when I could have just limped in and done the same thing.

from any position raise? if I am the first one putting a raise in with those hands?

and...hands like ace/10 and ace jack scare me too, when some guy has position on me... I could be dominated on the flop if an ace hits by a bigger ace that just smooth called my preflop raise.

Don't take offense to this, but it sounds like you are playing with scared money. You may need to move down in stakes(likely not possible live) or get numb to the money. I would suggest playing online at a lower stake or building up a bankroll through saving income that makes you less likely to react to the violent swings a loose live game can put on you. Obviously playing more at you current limit will numb you to the money too provided you have an edge on the opponents. You should look up our bankroll management thread for further explanation.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

you may be right, but I have a system... I go in with a max buy in of 200 every time I play. (no second buy in)

I just want to preserve my stack, I play tight but pick my spots and when I do go... I am pretty aggresive. I do a lot of research and I am a pretty decent player in my opinion. I am up almost 5 grand last year, and I love playing live poker. I am not an online player... I like to make reads etc.

scared money ? hmmm more like tight money sometimes. (maybe the same thing)

Absolutely. Especially in late position with your hand. Hopefully the BB folds with their 7/3 and you don't have to worry about the suck out.

Are you likely to put your money all-in when you have an OESFD and will likely be flipping or do you fold and shy away from these situations early in your session? If your honest with your answer that should tell you if you are playing with scared money. Do you keep a bankroll, or do you just put your winnings back into your daily accounts?
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

well why settle for a coin flip ? it is like going all in preflop with AK, if I want to race I should just take my chips and go play blackjack. I would rather wait till I am in a dominant position to get my money in.
