i have a problem whenever i play live games...
sometimes when i'd push all in or when i'm couting out my chips to make a bet my hands would shake from being nervous...
this happens when i'm both bluffing or when i have the nuts... usually i get calls from it though but i wish i wouldn't do it...
anyone know how i could get more relaxed and stop shaking my hands?..

It's all just experience. As you play more live, you'll be able to control your emotions and your outer tells better

you get called because youre shaking ?
Thats surprising... Most of the time, shaking means BIG hands in my experience.

yes shaking is a physical release of tension when you are almost sure you are winning the hand. I have never heard of anyone shaking when bluffing.

I'm exactly the same way. My hands shake when I'm bluffing. They shake when I have the nuts. They shake when I value bet. I have been playing live a lot more recently and it's an annoyance more than anything. Some guy called me Michael J. Fox a couple weeks ago. That's how bad it is.
If your hands shake uncontrollably when you play it's better to have them shake all the time as oppossed to only in specific situations (ie. when you have a huge hand). If they shake all the time then it's unreliable as a tell. You're opponents will notice it though. As Renton said, it's a release of tension and typically a sign of strength. In my experience, people almost always interpret it as strength. I play 1/2 and 2/5 NL live and the vast majority of opponents at this level just aren't observant enough to notice that I shake in all kinds of situations. They typically only notice it they are directly involved in a pot with me and faced with a hard decision (ie, I make a substantial bet/raise).
It sucks when you actually do have a monster and they interpret the shaking as strength and fold. Most of the situations you'll be in though are when you don't have the nuts. In these situations, you can use your shaking hands to your advantage.
I was playing this past weekend and a relatively tight player made it $20 PF and had 4 callers by the time it got to me in the BB. My image at that point was that of a straight-forward player so I figured there was a good chance I could take all the dead money if I put in a raise. I raised $65 with J8s, making it $85 to go. The initial bettor was the only person I was really afraid of and if I could get him to fold I thought the others would probably muck as well. When I was counting out my raise, the guy notices my hands shaking and makes a comment about it. He continues to think a little longer then finally folds. Everyone else folded after him. I think my hands shaking benefitted me in this situation. Not only that this particular guy noticed, but also the fact that he made a comment that the entire table could hear. After he said it, if someone else hadn't thought about the possibilty that I might have a big hand they did then, and it might have factored it into their decision to fold as well.
I routinely play against better players online than the ones I face live and am typically playing for more money and yet I am fine. Live though I shake constantly. Maybe it's the fact that I am directly facing my opponents or that I am physically putting my money in as oppossed to just clicking as mouse. For whatever reason though, they shake like I have Parkinson's when I am playing live.
It's a reflex reponse so you aren't going to be able to control it. Most people only do it out of excitement of having a big hand. I guess we do it when we're bluffing and afraid we might get called. We do it when we think we probably have the best hand, but aren't sure, etc. The only way you are going to be able to stop it is if you can some how become devoid of emotion. I sometimes get wasted when I play. What do you know... my hands don't tremble then. I'm sure you'll also find that your hands start to shake less as you become more accustomed to live play. You'll start to become desensitized to what is going on around you.
The times when people will most notice you are shaking is when you extend your hands to bet. To minimize this you can count off the amount you are calling/raising beside your chip stack. Once you have determined the right amount then you extend the chips into the middle in one motion and return your hands close to you. Doing this keeps you from fumbling chips in the middle and only puts your hands in direct view for a very brief period of time. Other than that I don't really know what else you can do. In the mean time I would try to use it to your advantage if you can.

wow... great play...
generally everyone i play with knows i'm a tight/aggresive player so when i bet huge they know i have them beat regardless of what they have... unless of course they have the absolute nuts
last time i made a play like that i re raised more than half my stack when there was a straight/flush possibility with a pair on the board and all i had was a king high... i re raised for nearly 60% of my chips... this guy shows me the nut flush and says i wanna see your boat and folds...
i showed him nothing and he tilted away his chips for the rest of the night... haha...

I also do the shaking thing with both types of hands, but usually after a few drinks I'm good (although a lot more chatty, lol)

the shaking is just adreneline isn't it?
I do it too btw! Although last time I played live, I was hungover to crap and just had the shakes all day!
Anyway, it's adreneline kicking in because you are excited at either (a) having the nuts and think you're going to win a bit pot or (b) the buzz of possibly pulling off a huge bluff.

How many live games have you played?
Do you play at the same place everytime?
Drink 1-2 Beers very fast before you play .. That outta calm you down and not get you drunk in less you are a lush.
I used to have to wipe my pits before I drew cards for seats.

Interesting...I have the same problem...I shake persistently nuts, value, or bluff. A few beers will calm it down a little bit but it's still there - just slight.
I don't play live much at all, so I attribute it to stagefright...basically just adrenaline as someone mentioned.
Good to know I'm not the only one lol.

I have a condition that causes me to constantly shake. Not Parkinson's... I forget the full name of it.
It's subtle and isn't noticeable in day-to-day life until I need to do something requiring more precision with my hands, ie fiddling for change, working with tools, and... of course, counting chips.
First live game I played I was dealt pocket 5s... was counting a raise out and someone commented about my MONSTER hand because of my shaking. Holding 5s, I was pleased that they thought I was holding a monster. That situation arises just about every time I get into a game with people who are unfamiliar with my natural shake.

Yeah me too, I remember shaking like crazy in a fairly big pot awhile ago when I was a 90%+ fav to win.
I used to shake when I got big hands when I first started playing live, but over time this has stopped. It's funny how you can pick put a noob at the table straight away by how nervous they look the whole time.
I was playing the first tournament this year in college, so obviously a load of guys there that had never played before. In one hand I hit middle set on a board with no draws, I kept raising hard, and the other guy in the hand was shaking the whole time, the only thing stopping me from going all-in on the river was his shaking, maybe he'd hit top set or something, he turned over j high
I've never seen someone get the shakes with a bluff. I've seen them look nervous, pulse racing and all that, but not the kind of shakes they get with monsters.

Yeah I used to shake alot when I played. Just nerves I guess. I'd say time heals all shaking, just like most everyone else said.
If your still having trouble after a while maybe try meditation or breating techniques.

Breath, you guys need to breathe, nice deep breaths slowly through your nose and then exhale through your mouth, do this very discretely and it will help you relax = less shaking. Practice this even while you play online, this will help bigtime when your in live play.
when your at home and your playing online shaking your hand in the air hooting and hollering because you have the nuts, this may translate to live play, so try and keep your emotions in check when you play online.

It happens with people, even if they do not have problems. It can stress and even lower blood sugar levels that is probably the reason why you use it for lunch. I do not believe that there is something to freak out. But if it so bad your doctor again and details about it.
