I had never played in a B&M until this weekend. My wife and I live in N.C. but all our family is in Kansas. Christmas we were at her grandmother's house, which is only a stone's throw from an indian casino where they do have a pokerroom (only a couple pokerrooms in all of Kansas I think).

I ducked out of the house during the afternoon nap session to see if there would be any action at the poker tables. When I got there it was just seven people playing 2-5 stud. I mostly play NLHE online but I decided to give it a try; I've played enough and read enough about stud to feel like I should be at least average in this kind of table.

This table worked different than online stud games I've played - there is no ante, the bring-in is $2, and you could bet between $2 and $5 on any street. People would sometimes bet $3 or $4 and I wouldn't really know why, but I didn't worry too much about it. It was a fairly soft table, but one guy in particular was just gambling every hand. He'd play every hand to the river (often betting) and then fold or call if he had anything at all. He'd chase backdoor anything, gutshot anything, you name it. Even after a couple donkey plays of my own I still was up $50 after just about 30 minutes.

Then they collapsed the stud table to play hold 'em since there were people waiting for that (who apparently were afraid to play stud with this cretin). I got absolutely no cards for 3 orbits, and finally caught a rush of cards and ended up walking out of the casino $100 richer after about an hour and a half. Nearly all of it thanks to our pal Santa! Santa must have dropped about $400 while I sat there, and another player told me he'd gone through $1000 - at a $2-$5 game!

I know it can't always be this good but I'm definitely going to make it a point to get out there again!

I think the term for that betting structure is $2-$5 spread limit.

Glad you had a good outing!

If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
