...or does etiquette have anything to do with it? Say I'm at a 2/4 table (in a B&M casino) and I notice a couple of sharks at the table? Is requesting a table change considered rude, or when it comes to protecting your chips (i.e. $$$) 'you gotta do what you gotta do'?
Yeahhhh mannnnnn

There is nothing wrong with it, just cash out an put your name down for a different table, I imagine you just have to mention you don't want to be re-seated at your old table.

Some people switch seats to gain position so I can't see how switching tables could be considered rude.
Poker is all about the long long long long long long long term . . .

It's your money man. I think table selection is the single most under-rated aspect of Poker.

No. Not rude at all. In fact the last time I was playing the players suggested that I ask for a table change. I will spare you the details.

It's certainly not rude. I move seats in a game quite often, sometimes you'll just have to buy in as if you're just coming to the table if you would skip the blind by moving.

As far as moving tables, I do it all the time. A lot of the time just to play with players I know instead of a table of people I've only been playing with for that night. I always let the brushes know if I want to make a move, I play enough for them to recognize me and not have a problem with it. If I leave a $5/$10 game for another $5/$10 game, it doesn't cost someone their seat if they've been waiting.

Moral of the story, no problem at all, just make sure it's okay with the brushes before you jump tables.
Always jam the pot preflop with
