I am only 20 years old and live in the US, so I decided to take a trip up to niagara falls in canada so i could play some cards in a casino for the first time. I wish I could say it was a good experience, but it wasn't, at all. I got there on friday and signed up for 2-5NL at about 8:00, and I finally got on a table at....11:00. They only had 16 tables, and it was extremely crowded because it was the weekend before their WPT event and they were having satellites. Anyways, before I sat down I asked the floor manager what the max buyin was and they told me $300, I thought that was pretty shitty but not that bad. So I got my chips and sat down after standing there waiting for 3 hours, and then was informed by the dealer that the max buyin was only $200, what the fuck. Then they charged me $6 to sit because there is no rake. Then I was informed that they switch dealers every 30 minutes, and charge you $6 every time. So 2 minutes later, they switched dealers, and I was charged another $6. sweet. So after 3.5 hours of play and seeing no hands, I was down $80 pretty much from the fees and blinds. The dealers were slow as hell and sometimes took like 15 seconds to figure out the winning hand. I called it a night because that game was ridiculously gay. The next day I signed up for 1-2NL (max buyin $100). After about 15 minutes my name was 3rd on the list, and there were 2 empty seats at the table, however the 2 players above me on the list were both already at other tables (1 was in a WPT sat) and their names had been blinking for 15 minutes. I informed the floor manager and the pit manager that they were at other tables, which was pretty clear considering it had their table number beside their name on the list, and he said "ok" and he went over to the screen and then totally ignored me. 15 minutes later, I told him again, and he totally ignored me once again. 20 minutes later, I told him again, and he finally let me sit down. Once again, I had to pay that damn fee, expecting it to be like $2 or $3, but it was $5, which made no sense to me whatsoever. I did pretty well though, cashing out with $550 at a table full of fish and my brother. I went to get some food, and then decided i didn't want to play anymore because including the rake and short stacks, I figured i only had about a 60% chance to profit even if I was by far the best player at the table. Also the drinks were not free, they charged me $4.50 for a vodka tonic. So all in all it was a pretty shitty experience for my first time in a casino, despite making a few hundred I wish I had not gone.
