I recently bought two decks of kems from a local toy store. A few weeks ago, to my chagrin, I realized that I had managed to lose three cards, being the bright guy that I am. I mailed in the card replacement order and then, when it was returned to me by the post office, I realized that kem sold the company recently.

How should I go about repalcing these cards? I don't want such an expensive deck to go to waste.

I think you're out of luck. I was reading through a thread on 2+2 a while back about problems people had with getting replacement cards. This has caused lot of people to switch to Copag.

I wrote USPCC after 1 of my cards was gnawed by my friends dog. They said they had to suspend the replacment program until the 1st of the year. Then they would have it, or something comporable in its place.

It's almost March and I still don't see anything even on the USPCC website.
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Is it me, or is U.S. Playing Card totally destroying KEM's reputation? What was the pinnicle of card excellence is slowly going the way of the dodo.

Too bad. I guess I'll have to be extra careful with my KEM's now. I may even get a deck of Copag just to see the difference.

There are 2 ways they can take it. The USPCC can take the brand and keep the reputation, providing big money backing to the best name in cards, making Kem and USPCC the biggest name in industry.

Or they can take the name Kem and lower the whole brand and most people’s expectations down to the mud. Having people instantly lose the respect that Kem has spend years achieving while simultaneously providing anger to every serious card player in America.

*crosses fingers*

I wonder which one they pick.

USPC is really pissing me off. every day i get on the internet, i check and see if the new Arrows have hit the market yet. it went from before christmas, to early this year, to late Jan., to early Feb. now, all the sites that i check on haven't even updated the Kem news. i think they have given up.

i was afraid that USPC was going to do this, pull a wal-mart and cheapen something that was once great just to make a buck. i think they are just selling to casinos because it makes them more money than the consumer market. damn corporate takeovers.

i only have two decks of Kems and was hoping to add to the collection as soon as they released the new ones, now i think that it is time, even for a hardcore Kem fan like myself, to break down and try a deck of Copags. figures though, as soon as i get into home games and discover the perfection that is Kem, they fold up the tents and close after 70 years.
"But they were suited?!?! You idiot!!"

See I'm more of a conspiracy theorist. I feel the USPCC is purposely making everything associated with KEM messed up. This way people will say screw KEM and go back to playing paper cards. And what do paper cards do? WEAR OUT. Thus making it necessary to replace those cards.

Just a thought. If you can't beat them. Buy them out and turn the brand into crap.

yeah....

update on the whole replacement situation - I emailed USPC inquiring about getting replacements and received this:

The United States Playing Card Company has bought out Kem Plastic Playing Card Company. I'm sorry the USPC is not honoring Kem's replacement card policy. However, we have two designs of kem cards Arrow and Paisley in narrow bridge size. Avail in June. Thanks Becky King

I responded with an angry email. More to come.

ChezJ is an unknown quantity at this point
my friend just bought a brand new setup of KEMs. we opened the package and i was shocked to find that they did not even include the replacement card form in the deck. so i think KEMs are pretty much DOA at this point.

buy copags. they are cheaper, the print quality is higher, and they feel terrific.
