The casino I go to, Casino NS, Canada has a rule that you cannot talk about the hand while you are playing it. I understand that other players shouldn't mumble about oh I folded XX! But what about talking to the other players in the hand trying to gather information?
They call in 'angling' and your hand is mucked if you continue to do it. I personally think its a stupid rule and takes out some psychological aspects of the game. The only reason I can think of why the casino would put the rule in place is that constant banter between players would slow the game down and decrease the #hands/hr and decrease the rake. They may also be trying to protect new players from getting themselves in even worse predictaments than they are already in.
I heard that in Las Vegas you are aloud to even show an opponent your cards during a hand! Is this true? And what are your thoughts on angling?
Sorry if this has already been brought up a thousand times...I'm fairly new to this forum!

To be honest I have no idea but it seems to me that if you're heads up it shouldn't matter because you can only hurt yourself by doing stuff like that but with 3 people in the hand. You reveal one card, that takes away so much from one of the other players who was perhaps trying to bluff that card or whatever...you can hurt someone else's chances of winning as well as your own if you do something like that, not that anyone in vegas at the $10/$20 wants to gamble away that kind of money.

Technically, I think most casinos prohibit talking about the hand. But it's only enforced sporadically.
As a matter of poker etiquette, you shouldn't talk about the hand in anything other than a whisper if you are out of the hand, and you should never talk with someone still in the hand if you are out of it either.
As for the people in the hand, that's where the fun begins. Personally, I find one type of talking harmless and another type very offensive.
The type I find harmless is the person who has a decision to call, fold, or raise asking the bettor/raiser about his hand. "What do you have, trips?" The bettor doesn't have to answer, of course. Or the bettor can lie. Or the bettor can tell the truth. But either way, the decision maker can't complain, because he asked for it.
The type of talking I find very offensive is players who volunteer statements about their hand to other players trying to decide whether to make, call, or raise a bet. If I am reconstructing the hand in my own mind, and trying to read you, and I didn't ask you for information, I don't particularly want to hear you say "if you can't beat 2 pair, don't call". Especially since 95 percent of the time, these statements are false. Essentially, the person who is making a big decision for a lot of money has a right to the time and quiet necessary to make that decision. And they further have a right not to be manipulated into making a bad decision by a talkative opponent.
This, by the way, is the best reason for having an ipod at the poker table. You can tune this kind of crap out.

If u r talking to someone else who is in the hand that u r in as well and u r the only 2 left then i think it would be fine but if there is another person in the pot i would say do not talk about it. What i hate is when someone who folded is talking to someone else who folded saying oh i would have had this.

The time to do that, if you feel you must, is after the hand is over. I certainly don't have a problem with someone at the end of a hand that was raised pre-flop and where the flop came 772 saying "damn, I should have called with that 72 offsuit!". Just wait until the hand's over to do it.
