Live limit at San Manuel. I am in seat 8. Seat 9, who just sat down, is a young guy with sunglasses who likes to talk about his great play.
A few hands after he sits down, I am in the big blind with 22. He's under the gun. Table is EXTREMELY loose-passive.
He raises (his first raise), gets 7 callers. So I call from the big blind to setmine.
Flop is K92.
Seat 7 checks. I check. Seat 9 bets. Seat 2, a loose aggressive older guy, raises. He likes to raise flops. Seat 5, an older lady who is something of a calling station, calls. Seat 7, a weird player who alternates from loose-passive to loose-semi-aggressive, calls. I call. Seat 9 3-bets. Seat 2 caps. Seat 5 calls. Seat 7 folds. I call. Seat 9 calls. So now we have the four players who will play out the hand.
Turn is a blank.
I check, with the intention of check-raising. Seat 9 bets. Seat 2 raises. Seat 5 calls. I'm a little worried that seat 9 might have a higher set. I'm less worried about seat 2, because he's loose-aggressive and will pay me off with lots of hands. However, seat 9 has only 3 chips left after his turn bet, so I figure I may be able to build a decent side pot with the bets of seat 2 and seat 5. I 3-bet. Seat 9 calls his 3 chips and puts himself all in. Seats 2 and 5 call my 3-bet.
River is a blank. I bet. At this point seat 9 gets really pissed off. You see, he's got his hand and his chips in, and perhaps also thinks players will thank him if he stops them from putting any more money in the pot. In any event, he wants to collect his winnings. So....
He loudly and thunderously turns his hand over (KK, of course) and says "I got you all beat, come on already and pay me the money".
At this point, of course, seat 2 and 5 fold. He's killed their action and killed my side pot.
I call the floor, knowing it's not going to get me any money back but because I really want to educate this guy. He's screaming how he didn't do anything wrong and I'm holding up the game. The other players are saying it's no big deal (they apparently had no idea that I was aware that I might be behind and was trying to bloat the side pot).
In any event, floor was called over, I explained what happened, and the floor was WAY too mild, just saying to the guy that "it's technically against the rules to show your hand while there are still players betting". Great floor work there! The guy never did get the point of what I was doing or why it is a really big deal to do what he did.
Werd post-script: a couple of hours later, he's card-dead and someone else wins a big pot with pocket kings. He says to the dealer "hey, how come you can't deal ME pocket kings once in awhile".
That's right, he'd already forgotten.
