When it's time to sit down at a table what do you think of the players who:
A) Wear sunglasses.
B) Wear online poker branded clothing/items.
C) Wear Headphones.
D) Card protectors
E) Any combination of the above.
When I play I wear sunglasses because after extended periods of time I can get headaches from all the lights at the casino.
If I am seated on a table that has someone with glasses, headphones etc I don't really think much of them in terms of them having a douchbag appearance, but I do watch them carefully and am a little extra weary of them.
Thoughts/discussion anyone?

The thing I want to know about someone wearing poker site merchandise is what they play, tournaments or cash games.
I think someone wearing headphones is at a big disadvantage, and I assume they're thinking analytically about their hands and betting patterns and don't care about physical tells.

If they wear sunglasses my first perception is that they are either very active players or potential bluffers, but of course is just a first impression I would pay attention to them as I would to any other players to find the useful info.
And card protectors I think are only for fun/style, but it can mean that is a supersticiuos person that if he feels lucky will happily flip hands.
Nice post, I'm looking forward to see what other people think of this

A) For players who wear sunglasses, I generally think they are a fish.
B) Players who wear poker branded clothing probably play online and like to play poker so they may not suck as bad as someone who doesn't know the hand ranks, but again, I would tend to think they aren't all that great if they feel the need to try to indirectly tell me that they like to play poker.
C) Players who wear headphones probably play a lot of poker and they wear them to pass the time more pleasurably. They might not be very perceptive since they are conceding the key sense of sound.
D) I have a small pocket watch that I put over my cards to "protect" them so they don't get folded unless I fold them. I notice hardly anyone uses these in casinos and I'm not sure why. I think it's important to protect your cards. I also don't like using a chip because you might get all-in and then you'd lose your protector. Also, I could possibly see a problem if you went to protect your cards and the chip accidentally rolled into the pot when it was your turn to act. I don't really pass judgment on anyone one way or the other on this.
To be honest, though, I try to let players' actions do the talking and not put too much stock into generalizations.

This makes no sense. If you go all-in, your cards are flipped up for all to see and there is nothing to protect.
I use my hand as a card protector. Pretty simple.

It makes a lot of sense if you're playing cash and don't have to show your hand.

A) Wear sunglasses.
Watch for bluffs and if you can imagine a physical tell to put off start acting. They'll notice and you can use it to your advantage.
B) Wear online poker branded clothing/items.
They play, they want people to know they play. Take them as they are I'd bet they're wearing it on the chance of meeting some new friends who share their interest in poker.
C) Wear Headphones.
Numbers players, they're playing odds the whole way. Watch out that you don't give away a betting pattern.
D) Card protectors
Either superstitious or they've had hands folded prematurely. If they kiss it they're definitely superstitious.
Of course never put anything at face value. You still need to watch their play to decide what type of player they are.

yes, in the places I play, you don't have to flip when all-in, unless you want to do business.

Now that I have had some responses when I am off my break I will field test an all of the above combination and see if i get treated differently.
The sunglasses thing for me is a must anyway as I mentioned I have a tendancy to get headaches after extended periods of time. My eyes will also start to become glassy (water) as well. This has nothing to do with anything aside from how long I have spent at the table. Usually every 2-3 hours I like to get up and walk around, have a smoke etc.
As for the headphones I will being along my MP3 player but have it switched off. This way i can still hear what is going on at the table but will just play ignorant to it.
Poker branded clothes - I have a Full Tilt tshirt and custom jersey but for added effect I will use some more FTP's and get something a little more stylish like one of those funky jackets and wear that. To kill 2 birds with one stone I will also get a Full Tilt card protector.
I think this should be enough to get some impressions. *laughs*
The one thing I am not going to change here is my game. I bring my A-game to the table everytime I sit down and the stake is not a factor in this.
In a few weeks when I come off my break I will put in a session of around 5hrs and report it up.

A) Usually, players who wear sunglasses are bad. They wear them because they overrate the importance of physical tells, and don't realize that I'm reading their hand based on their betting pattern and style of play and not because they blinked their eyes at me.
Every once in awhile, I run into a good player (especially at higher limit tables) who wears them. Not very often though.
B) I don't notice this very much. Actually, I see a lot more players wearing casino garb. In any event, I haven't observed this making much of a difference.
C) I've seen decent and terrible players wear headphones. Lots of players wearing headphones tends to slow up the game, because they make more mistakes as to who the action is on, what the action is, etc. But I don't think it's a big signal as to how good the player is.
D) Almost all good players use something-- whether a chip or a small object of some sort-- to protect their cards. Many bad players do too, so this isn't much of a tell except that if the player isn't protecting his or her cards with something, he or she is either (i) very bad or (ii) new to live poker.
I will say that one of the biggest tells is people who constantly ask for set-ups (other than because of a damaged card) or for the deck to be washed, or who abuse the dealer. There is exactly ONE player who does these things in the mid-stakes live limit games I play who is a good player (and I don't know why the heck he does it). Every other player I have ever seen do this is terrible.

a) I don't see how this helps anyone. Makes me think they are hiding a tell or something.
b) Want to appear better than they are at poker, like wearing a FT shirt or PS hat makes them a better player.
c) I can understand this one but still gives the player a disadvantage, there can be some very annoying players at live games, not for me anyway.
d)These are a must have, seen a few hands get mucked because they did not have their cards "protected". Great example last year in the WSOP, pocket Aces got mucked on an all in because the dealer grabbed the cards as he was picking up mucked hands.
