My first post after a long time lurk. I am not sure if this is exactly the right forum. If not, mod please move it.

Last night I am first time at a game with a group of regulars, none of whom I have met before. They have obviously all been playing together for a while.

I've got about $100 in front of me, and it is me and one other player left on a pot that has grown to about $200. I have been acting before the other player on all rounds and have been betting into it and getting called each time.

The completed board is showing 9 T J 2 Q (I forget the suits but there is no flush draw) for a possible 8 to Q or 9 to K. My hole cards are 9 and Q for 2 pair.

It is my turn to act again and I know my opponent assumes I have a made pair and was drawing for the straight. He has about $75 in front of him and I move all in.

He hems and haws and thinks and thinks and looks at me, etc etc for 5 minutes. I'm starting to think he has the 8, but he is worried I have the K to beat him.

Finally someone says "time please". So this guy asks if he can turn his cards over (doesn't say call or fold) while he thinks. I don't want to say anything either way for fear of giving away that he has me beat. Someone else says "It's a cash game..."

So he flips over a 7 and 8. After he does, he looks around at everyone else. No one actually says anything out loud, but I catch a head nod from someone else across the table and he calls me. I muck my cards and tell him good job and everyone else at the table congratulates him on a good call.

I'm a little annoyed that he did this and probably recieved non verbal coaching from a more experienced player, but it is my first time at this game and I know I can beat most of these guys most of the time so I let it slide, as I want to come back in the future.

What is everyone's opinion of this?

Thanks.

This belongs in the "Live Poker," forum.

Secondly, that's bullshit. I go nuts at this point.

That's how winners play; we convince the other guy he's making all the right moves.

Yeah, I'm not sure what I *should* have done. If I raise a big stink about it then it's going to be VERY unplesant and I for sure won't be going back to what is likely going to be profitable in the future.

The game is run by a real nice old guy who I believe is a former pro. When dude flipped his cards over, the pro is the first one I looked over at and he kept his gaze fixed downward and did nothing to try and tip the guy as to what to do so I trust him as impartial. The guy who did the head nod was obviously a buddy of the wuss who couldn't make up his mind.

I'm considering having a private word with the old pro about what went down to see what his house rules are and to lodge my grievance, though I'm not sure what the point would be after the fact.

He was looking for a reason to call and found one. Compared to the crap I deal with every day, this is nothing.

Next time call a clock on him.
