So I'm trying to decide between 2 different poker destinations and was wondering what everyone's thoughts on rake vs. time charges were. All things being equal, would you rather pay rake or time? I'm more of a TAG type player, so I'm leaning toward rake. Time charge room (Caesars Indiana) is 2 hrs closer though, which would be nice. Would be playing 1/2 or 2/5 NL, maybe 3/6 Limit. Charge at this particular room is $6/30 min.
Incidentally, if anyone's been to Caesars Indiana, I'd love to get the skinny on what type of place it is.

I've played 1/2NL live at Caesars and basically it's just like everything else I've read about B&M online...the majority of the players suck really bad, just sit back, get a nice hand and play it hard. There seems to be little to no idea for most people of what pot odds are, or even decent play in general. Basically, if I lived closer to the boat I'd never leave...

I've always played raked pots, but I don't like the timed idea...I just got back from a night of playing 3/6 limit where I was more card dead than I've ever been in my life. I think having to pay $6 every half hour on top of only playing a hand every 45 mins would have put me on serious tilt.

$12/hr for 2-5 NL or even 1-2 NL wouldn't be bad at all, probably even better than a rake. But at 3-6 fixed limit it would be absolutely brutal even compared to the relatively high regular rake that they take.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

I play TAG too and would prefer to pay rake by the pot. I don't drag 3 pots every hour, and with max rake at $4, I would be better paying by the hand.
If you factor in 2 extra hours of drivetime though(250miles), I am playing as close to home as possible. The extra gas is $20 anyway, so it may be breakeven depending upon length of sessions. One accident from fatigue will destroy any rake savings.
Play closer.

Rake per pot would be better than a time charge.
For instance:
For every $10 in the pot the Casino will rake $1. $40 in the pot Casino will rake $4. If there is $100 the Casino will rake $4. At least in Oklahoma the max rate is $5. $1 going to the players bad beat jackpot pool every hand and $4 max or 10% of the pot. So the most is $5 at any given time no matter how big the pot.

I play at Foxwoods and they do 5$ every half hour and it does suck if your getting cold cards I probably take down a decent pot and average of twce an hour so I guess it comes out about even???

At 1/2 I think rake is much better, especially if you're a TAG. At 2/5 not as bad but still prefer pot rake.
I've been to Caeser's alot(I live in Louisville about 35 minutes away). It's a pretty nice room. There are always tons of 1/2NL games(300 max) and usually a 2/5NL game(1000 max). Sometimes a 5/10NL(maybe no max, not sure).
1/2 is mostly a fishfest. 2/5 can be tough if it's all regulars but still very beatable. Never played 5/10 or limit. Make sure you get your $6 food voucher(you might get two if you're there awhile and ask for it). Room is pretty big, there are TVs around if there's a game on. Poker room is non smoking but the rest of the floor isn't so you will smell of smoke regardless. Jeff(of elipsesjeff fame) recommends the Kobi(sp?) steak if you want to drop a wad at the steakhouse. Fri/Sat nights can get packed. You can call ahead when you get close to get on a list if you want. Hotel is overpriced, stay down the street in New Albany if you're spending the night.
From what I've heard the regular tourney formats kinda suck though I've never played one. We've had a few mini-FTR get togethers up there. You should post in community or something if you want to meet up.
