got some new info on the Kem situation. i guess the united states playing card company bought them out. they are the company that makes just about every other card out there, Bee's, Bike's, Hoyle's. now they have Kem too. not too sure if that's good or bad, sound like a monopoly to me. anyway, here's a link to the site that clued me in.
www.bgamers.com/kemcards.htm
the good news is that they will be producing Arrows in 2005, the bad news is that they will probably be raising prices. just thought you guy might be interested.

So last night I was at a home game and I pulled out my Kems. I had my chewed by the dog a little.
Am I screwed or can I still get a replacement?
|
|
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

I wrote to US Playing Card Co to get my answer.
Here it is.

I understand that you have recently aquired Kem playing cards. I have a question about my Kems. I need a replacement in my Victorian style bridge size deck. Will the replacement orders still be honored?
Also, I am interested in buying a deck of Aristocrat cards and a deck of Diamond. I cannot find these for sale at any retail store, and I have not found any help through the Internet. Can I buy these direct from you? Or can you point me to a retailer who can sell these to me?
Thank you,

The reply kinda pissed me off. Cause she only answered half my question and she gave she shortest response possible. Will they offer replacements to my deck after the beginning of the year? Who knows. Where can I get Aristocrats and Diamonds? Who knows.

yeah, i'm a little skeptical about this whole buy out thing. i did some digging as far as the aristocrat cards are concerned. all i could find are two options. either you just get some retired casino aristocrats or you buy like 2500 decks. kinda sucky options. i just hope they don't mess with kems, that would really suck. the only hope i can give you for your chewed up kem card is this. the address of the old kem plant is:
Kem Plastic Playing Cards, INC. - Service Dept.
2 Beck Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601
maybe they would forward it or something and hook you up. also check this site, but i couldn't find anything more promising.

They use Aristocrat's at the casino I work for, I have tons of cancelled decks and access to as many as I can possibly dream of, want some?

Thanks, but I am looking for some Aristocrats that haven't been 'cancelled' as in, no corners cut off and no holes punched in the middle.
I wrote back and asked again about getting the Aristocrats and Diamonds. I still haven't got a reply.

the cancelled decks are hole punched, no corners cut. Just thought I'd offer. I don't care much for Aristocrat's cards anyway.

They may not know yet. Acquisitions can be funny that way.

aristocrats and diamonds have always been made by United states playing card, not Kem. i have a few decks of the aristocrats, but they are cancelled casino cards from vegas. come to think of it, i don't think i have ever seen plain backed aristocrats. i have a set of Bee club specials, and they about the nicest plastic coated cards i have played with. obviously nothing compared to Kems, but i like the way the pattern on the backs don't have a border, kinda give it that old west look. anyway, let us know if they give you any response Humph.

i wrote to KEM last week about getting a damaged card replaced, and they confirmed that their card replacement service has been suspended until further notice due to the buyout.
so i ordered a setup of "Copag" cards via ebay and i must say, my first impression is that they are equally good as KEMs. very high quality printing (the KEMs i have are kinda fuzzy on the face cards) and extremely good feel (my KEMs are a bit too slippery).
no vested interest here, just wanted to share the information.
