Very Nice! Did you buy the table legs? If so where did you get the metal ones?

Very nice, I alway like the look of the race-track design.
I went all felt on mine, you will have to let us how moving chips/cards between the wood and felt works.
Also, I ended up cutting 1-1/2 inch from the legs (using a pipe-cutter) to bring the table height to a better level.

pushing chips from the wood to the felt, like you would when you went all in, might be a little hard. the felt is a little higher than the wood, but not too much. here's another pic to show you. as for the height, i think it's just about perfect. it could maybe use an inch or so off, but i don't think i want to fool with it right now.

How do you do chip tricks on the wood surface? Also your felt looks a little loose.

i can shuffle chips on hard surfaces, but either way, the pics are a little deceiving, it's only like 7 inches between the bumper and the felt, so if you want to do tricks on the felt it's not much of a stretch. as for it being a bit loose, i know, we noticed that, but it's not too bad and that center piece comes right out with undoing four bolts on the bottom, so it can be fixed. i still don't think it's too bad for our first try, and i like the way the wood turned out.

I agree, looks great. I'm hoping to build a table as soon as I get into the new house, when ever that is . I may be asing for help here as well.

ouch, using the poker legs for a craft table, how blasphemous. we built this in my buddies dad's shop. he has so many tools, it was great. he used to be a mechanic for united airlines, so he's a real handyman. he didn't really help, just gave some sage advice and smiled when we messed up here and there. anyway, his shop has everything, heat, TV, radio, DVD, VCR, satellite, everything but a phone. must be nice to be retired. AND, the women never walk down the hill to mess with anything. i strongly suggest this type of venue when building a table. anyway, thanks for all the comments, first game on friday night, can't wait.

Ahhhh! You have to tell me what you used around the outside... That bumper you have there has been a topic many a times around our table.
Very nice... I made an octagon table... I would post it but I can't figure out how...

I believe the rail is Perfect Padded Rail or something similar.

jes is right, it's the perfect padding rail from casinosupply.com. it was the only pre-fabed part of the table. i was a little worried about it at first, whether it would look crappy or be limp or something, but it worked out great and looks very professional. and, as a novice craftsman, it saved us countless hours of work we would have spent trying to figure out the way to make out own railing. i'm not sure if it would work on an octagon though, let me know if it does.
and for all those worried about the loose look of the felt, don't worry, it was just that the shop we were in was a little cold. when the table is inside, the felt tightens right up and looks beautiful. don't ask me why, but it does.

Yes, I just ordered a bunch of things off that site and its all ready shipped! WOW. Great site I hope.!!! Yeah I was little worried about the 8 sided bumper... Sooooo, I guess a round tables in the works now .... We need a rail though... How far in does it go from the edge of the wood into the playing area? Its hard to tell by the pictures and I can't plan with out that measument. Thanks a million you have all ready been a HUGE help!
EDIT: Oops, one more thing... How thick is the wood you used... 3/4"? Thanks again!

Elanto,
You should really build one. I am not too handy and have built 2 already.
To build one you will have around ~$200-250 in materials.
Prefabricated (poor quality) is $400-500.
Prefabricated (good quality) $1000+
To purchase a home built one: $400-600.
So if you are not going to build one, I would suggest you try to purchase one from another home table builder. You will get much better quality. You also need to decide whether you like the race-track design (as pictured here) or completely felt covered. You will not find the race-track design in an inexpensive prefabricated table.

the table is a total of one inch thick. the base board is just regular old 3/4" plywood, then for the racetrack we used 1/4" mahogany. check out this site to see what i am talking about.
http://www.thekopeckys.com/poker.html
i found this in the "build a table" section of homepokertourney.com. it really helped us with our design. it's not exactly the same and we used some different techniques from some of the different sites, but this was the primary guide for us.
and 'anto, those figures are about right for building vs. buying a table, as a matter of fact, while xmas shopping yesterday, i saw a prefab table for about $400, and it was a POS. ours was about $250-$275 to build and it is soooo much nicer. got any friends with woodworking exp.? that's the way to go. i live in an apartment with like no tools, and a friend from work's father in law let us use all his stuff and his shop, my job was primarily ordering stuff and i did a some cutting, but not the majority. just weigh your options before you go dropping a crapload on a second or third rate table.

by the way, the padding only goes over the table a few inches,
like 3, 4 max. here are some pics from the construction

this pic is when the middle part of the top board was out,
exsposing the baseboard, while we glossed.

this was the center piece while we were putting the underpadding on,
to give the felt some give, eaiser to pick up cards.

this was wrapping the felt on the center piece.
we then turned it over and secured it to the baseboard with
preplaced bolt and nuts on the bottom.

here's just a shot of the racetrack and the padding.
good luck with yours, post some pics when you are done.
