In my home game last night, I called a guy down to the river heads-up with a pocket pair in my hand. He bet the river, I called, then he threw his cards into the muck and said, "You're good."

I started to reach for the chips but the guys at the table said I still needed to show my cards to take the pot. Is that right?

If it's a cash game, nope.

If its a sng/tourney. Depends on the casino/home owner.

I just found this old post by lonnie, a cardroom dealer.... seems to confirm that I didn't need to show once my opponent mucked.

If he mucks his hand is dead, end-o-story, plus you CALLED, he is obligated to show his cards first if he wants to see a showdown.

BTW, this is the one thing that still pisses me off when Jamie Gold won the WSOP last year. He got caught bluffing like 3 times and his opponents never made him show, he kept asking what they had and mucking! He was getting all the info and they weren't getting any. I know it may be poor etiquette to ask to see someone's bluff but still, you're playing for 12 million, I might wanna get some information.

Two words...SHIP IT! You don't have to show.
Unless there are house rules, we are talking a question of poker etiquette. I call a player and he mucks, it will be a cold day in hell that I will show.

And Jamie Gold is still a D!@#! His mom is cool tho!

Hey guys, I still lurk from time to time.

Still dealing and supervising poker.

You guys are right, the last man with cards in his hand does not have to show to get the pot. Anyone at the table can ask to see the cards, just like at any other showdown. A good dealer will already have slammed the pot and mucked them before anyone gets a chance to get that curious though.

I only asked to see a mucked hand once live. Some old dude was folding every single hand and then one hand the entire table knew he had a monster by his body movement. But then the board was AKxxx and he checked behind on the river and the first guy open mucked... it stumped the shit outta me. So before the hand was even over I asked the dealer as quietly as possible (I always sit directly next to the dealer for just this reason) to show flip 'em if it gets to showdown.

Old dude showed 72. Weirdest thing I ever saw. Guess the rock decided to bluff but he was so incredibly nervous doing it we all thought he had AA/KK... weird.

Just curious

If anyone can ask to see the hands at showdown what will happen on the following scenario:
heads up
Player 1 mucks, someone asked to see the hand, and when the hand is flipped player 1 has a better hand then player 2?

Does player 1 or player 2 win the pot ?

UNLESS the person who asked to see the hand is Player 2. In that case, Player 1's muck comes back from the dead and he wins the pot.
