I just got a set of Modiano "Blackjack" playing cards. They're made in Italy, jumbo index with the Euro-style yellowish centre on all non-face cards. I like the look of the card faces, the coloured backgrounds give it a nice sophisticated look, and the indices are very clear, with a nice font. The set comes with 2 decks, one is red and the other blue.

Compared with my deck of Copags, these have a MUCH more substantial feel. Shuffling them feels much closer to paper cards than any plastic deck I've tried. They're noticeably thicker - they feel thicker when holding individual cards, and also when lining up the whole deck next to the deck of Copags, I'd say there's at least 1.5 mm difference, the Modianos being the thicker.

Copags shuffle much more smoothly - Modianos are stiffer, thicker and have more texture, so they make a lot more noise and feel "tougher", and thus are somewhat harder to riffle.

Also, a common complaint about Copags are their "faded" look, and how the whites are more like a greyish off-white. Modiano whites are very white in comparison, and the colours are crisp and clear, not faded at all.

Overall I'm very pleased with these cards. If you want something with a more substantial "papery" feel in a plastic playing card, Modiano might be worth a try. By the way Del Negro, another Italian company, reportedly make very similar playing cards.

No idea, but Modiano have come out recently with a cheaper line, the "Elements" which are $5 a deck and feel just as nice apparently. Sounds like a steal, but they weren't available in Canada - here the Blackjacks cost about the same as a set of Copags, so I figured why not.
