Got back from vactation and spent the evening at the 5/10 game.
Sat with $500, but with the entire table agreeing to straddle I ordered up another $500 for a full stack. That said, over time we retruned to our norm of the dead money and gamb00lers stradding while I just paid my mandatory blinds without complaint.
Was sitting with just over a grand when this hand got my stack going:
Straddle, UTG calls I make it $80 with 87 diamonds. UTG tells me he has a hand, thinks about re-raising but gives me credit for a tight image and just calls. 3 way to the flop with ~$240 in the pot. J45 with two diamonds. I c-bet $200, other guy folds, UTG re-raises to $400 and I go all-in for over a grand since there just isn't enough money behind at this point to flat. UTG tanks hard, flips a Jack and folds. LoL @ AJ/KJ/QJ/JT being a hand UTG. Anyway, built up to $1800ish with a couple medium pots and well timed aggression. Then whittled back down to $1200ish on missed cards, speculative calls, correctly laying down trips to a $200 river bet and a run-in with a LAgg.
Table broke and I took my full stack to a different table that was playing fairly tight. Pre-flop raises and flop bets went uncontested. I shifted up a gear taking everything not bolted down to win a quick $200ish in really small pots.
One of those annoying hands:
Old man with a big clip of hundreds who won't fold limps (he's down to around $350 left on his third buy-in) limps. I make it $60 with TT, big blind calls, old man calls. ~$180 in the pot. Flop comes Ace-nine-rag with two spades. BB checks, Old man leads $100 and has a pretty legit grin. Pushing here for the $300ish he's got left is kind of standard as often I'll see 9x or a draw or something, but I threw the old man a mulligan. His play was so absurd that I think Ax is in his range and fail that I sometimes run into a hand from the BB. Bleh, probably got robbed.
Anyway, most of my winnings came in nearly back-to-back stackings of $600ish stacks. Gamb00ler straddles, UTG calls, folded to my blind and I make it $100 flat with AK hearts. I had been doing plays like that with a fair range and wiinning lots of small pots. I think UTG decided he'd had enough and called. Flop was a King and a couple of other cards two spades. I lead a weakish $125 into $220ish and UTG pushed. I snap called. Turn and River were broadway spades, but that apparently didn't help him.
The other big hand went down like this:
Gamb00ler straddes, UTG calls, I make it $100 with Jacks in the Big Blind, Gamb00ler decides to defend, UTG has had enough of a beating. $220ish in the pot, King-King-rag with a couple hearts. I check, he quickly shoves for around $700 or so (HA call that with your missed AQ!), I fist-pump-snap-call and he's pretty clearly in rough shape. No miracle occurs.
Net +1450 on the evening. Really needed to book a medium win in that game. Getting more comfortable with the betting amounts and psychology. Some guys will get crazy aggro and still finding all the spots where I need to adapt to that.

Does not Fnord mean something like deceiver? Purposely posting misinformation or something? Clever nickname. Mine is probably misunderstood: I meant someone who needs to Pawn his belongings to be able to play poker...bla bla
Do you wear that nice suit when playing live?

A smart man learns only from his own mistakes.
A wise man learns from his own mistakes, and those of the smart man and the fool.

Short stacks play g00t dept.
UTG (over)-aggro reg playing out the $225 or so left of what was a 2k+ stack.
BN: semi-tight passive sort with about $350 left of his $500 buy-in.
I got nearly a couple K in front.
UTG and a couple others limp. I make it $75 from the CO with KQo, BN flats, UTG shoves, folded to me and I shove.....
BN folds
UTG calls
Dealer puts out 5 cards
I show
UTG shows KTo for the rivered straight
BN bitches about folding AQo.
I love live poker.

Ouch. Do you ever run it twice, Fnord?
|
|
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Maybe if offered and it was about a coin flip.
Running it twice as a 20:1 favorite doesn't have as much value.
Also, he was a strong player and I wanted to send him home or at least put a painful memory in his head associated with playing pots with me.
