I might sign up for this tournament. I work in Marlboro and i think i can probably get my company to front the buy-in since it's for charity

wow, what a terrible payout. 120 times 100 = $12,000. The charity is taking $7,000 out of the pot. Anyone who plays this looking to MAKE money is an idiot.

What would you say is the normal profit ratio for charity and non-charity tournaments that you've seen?

your not supposed to play it to make money, your supposed to be donating to charity and have a few hours of fun while doing something good.

Okay, it was much like some posters had commented on in other threads.
$1500 starting chips
Blinds started at $25/$50 and went up every twenty minutes
With a lot of people who had never played before, self-dealing, this means that one orbit of 9 players was almost exactly one blind period. Wide variety of skills. The guy who say down to my right knew more about NLHE that all of the rest of us at the table I'd say. At one point someone made a comment "I wonder how much is in the pot" and he replied instantly "$2425". I think he was trying to play quality hands only also, which looked to be frustrating for him.
I bombed out in an hour, having been dealt about 20 hands with the blinds already up to $100/$200. With the blinds moving that fast I figured I had to see more hands, which means that just calling the BB to see the flop was expensive. In general there wasn't raising preflop, but when I tried a PF raise I got just about as many callers as without.
I got worried about how fast my stack was going to shrink and tried to make something happen, and we all know what happens when you do that... I ran into a hand which had made two pair on the flop who wasn't about to be scared away.
So all for a good cause, a bit frustrating with the blinds and the pace of the game. I don't know if I'd do it again. On the plus side, then entire $100 donation/buy-in is tax deductible.
It looks like it may end up being a nigh-monthly thing, with another one at the same place going on for the Rotary club on Nov 12th, and another for the MEF in January, in case anyone else was interested.
