Sorry if this in not the correct forum.
Hey guys, this is my first post. Love the sight, I have been lurking for a while. I love playing cards. I usually play with the same guys, but that is getting boring. We started out playing those wild card games, but we play a NL hold-em tournament every once in a while (which I would prefer to play all the time). I have gone to homepokergames.com, but still have not found anybody else to play.
I would really like to play once a week, and would love to join a league. I would consider myself a decent player, and want to learn more about the game.
Does anyone know of anywhere else I can look, or even better are there any members here from LI, NY.
Please help, Thanks!
JM

welcome to the forum. FTR is great, all the literature had helped my game out a lot and there are some great people on this forum. anyway, if you can't find anything on the internet about local games, try some of the halls in your neighborhood. like the elks or whatever. they sometimes host tournaments, and tournaments bring in players. at least you could meet some people that play and see where else they play, could get hooked up that way. in most cases you don't have to be a member to play in these. i got one coming up at the eagle's club or something, $25 buy in, but i'm looking forward to meeting some more players in the area that might be ineterested in my home game. anyway, that might be a good way to start. good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, I never thought of that. I did find something around here called the Long Island Poker Club, they organize and run "Fundraiser" tournaments. However the average buy-in is around $150. I do not know if I am good enough for those stakes yet.
I will look into the elk's and the like around here.
Thanks again

Well I'm in Connecticut. And there were alot of local tournaments around here. That is until the Atty Gen. (At the behest of the Casinos ), put the kabosh on the whole thing. Being in Long Island puts you smack dab between Atlantic City and the Foxwoods.
I'm not sure your age and playing level, but there is alot of good poker for the long island area. I also know of an ahem....out of the way poker place in the city. I don't recall the name off hand, but would PM you when I do on the DL. Just keep plugging away with friends if you can. And amke a pilgrimage to one of the big boy casinos to up your game every now and then. Of course this is strictly speaking for the live experience. You can play to your hearts content online in OUR league. :P

Thanks FyrFytr998,
(Love your avitar by the way)
I usually play with the same guys so it is hard to judge my level. I would have to say I would be considered the best player out of them.
I have played in 2 NL limit tournaments with other people, both were sigle table tournaments, I won both. So I would have to say I know what I am doing somewhat.
I have not ventured into on-line poker yet. How would I go about joining you on-line league. You can PM the info to me.
Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the links.
I'm also on Long Island so maybe we can get some games going around the area when I'm back from school.
Where about on LI are you?
Just looked at some of those links. Anyone ever play at Big Slick? Im a little hesitant to just call someone and come to one of their home games.
