There are only two. The Grosvenor Victoria Casino and The Gutshot card club.

I'm in London in about two weeks. Actually, I'll be in the Oxford area for about a week and two days in london on my way back to Canada.
I want to play some cards while I'm in the UK (at minimum, when I'm in London) ...
Few questions:
o What's the story about having to register as a member before playing? Is that just a UK legality for all gambling?
o Is there any where I can go play while staying near Oxford, or am I going to have to hold out until I get to London?
o When in London, do you recommed the GutShot card room, or the Grosvenor Victoria Casino?

To be hoest, I haven'tplayed either. However the standard of play in the Vic is alegedly the best in the UK, and limits will be a lot higher than the Gutshot. I owuld recommend playing there. Presumably you are in Oxford for the Oxford Cup, the TD - Roy Houghton, also runs the Gushot so he's the man to ask.
Hope that helps?

I didn't understand the registration process either. I would recommend going to the casinos the night before you want to play to get everything sorted out (I vaguely remember something about a 24 hour process).

and its fantastic, great venue for poker and plenty of different levels of action, I am particularly a fan of the Saturday N/L tournament which has a £5 entry fee and £5 rebuys.
The outdated licensing laws in this country mean that to play in a casino you have to have registered 24 hours in advance, this is not the case at the Gutshot which circumvents this by being a members only club which merely offers its members a facility for playing cards. You do still have to become a member but can do this by filling in a form on the day.
There are one or two other such clubs here and there and I will post opinions when I have tried them - that is when I can tear myself away from the Gutshot!

in the UK, casinos (but not the Gutshot) are required that anyone wishing to play gives 24 hour notice of their intent, by signing up for membership at least this far in advance.
Dont think that if you sign up at 10pm tonight, they'll let you in at 8pm tomorrow - they won't!
This is strictly enforced, and all applications are time stamped. ou might find a few of the small independents bending the rules, but none of the casino groups will.
However most will allow you to apply by post or online beforehand and simply show up with ID on the night.

I just returned from London. I was there on business but I did find the GutShot and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the players and the staff seemed very friendly. It was also nice to not have to wait 24 hours to play!
I found the play rather loose with a lot of gamblers.
I'll definitley go back next time I'm in London.
