I've been playing online for quite some time now but I've played poker in a casino a total of four times...
In Reno i played in a cheap tourney two different days finishing second in one and out of the money in another. I played some 3/6 limit there and another time in tunica. None of the times did i come away a winner.
I have read the sticky's and articles here and also Small Stakes Holdem.
I'm headed back to tunica this weekend and hope to find a couple of cheap tourney's and will probably give 3/6 another shot. Any advice is appreciated....

BankItDrew will become famous soon enough
I've only played a few hours of live limit but would strongly recommend avoiding it like the plague.

I've never played live limit...something about all those stacks of $1 chips really just doesn't do it for me.

Well, first, be sure you are acquainted with the ways of live poker. Know when it is your turn, know when you have to put the blinds in, don't make string bets (that's when you put out chips to call and then pause and put out more chips to raise-- that's considered illegal because it allows you to observe another player's reaction and then "change your mind" and decide to put more in), etc.

As far as how 3/6 live limit plays, it tends to play extremely loose and passive. Don't expect it to be anything like 3/6 limit on the internet. What you want to do is narrow your starting hand selection so you are only playing premium hands out of position and you are playing them aggressively (expect, however, your pre-flop raises to be called-- you can't isolate at this level). In position, you can play more hands, but you want to keep an edge over your opponents, who will be playing everything. So be willing to fold trash.

You will need to watch what your opponents' tendencies are post-flop. There are 2 species of fish at these games, timid players and calling stations. Timid players will fold to aggression post-flop. If you are up against one or more of those, you can play very aggressive, bluff and c-bet a lot, and not worry too much unless they play back at you.

Calling stations are very different. Against a calling station, you can't bluff, so you need to be willing to check and fold when you don't have the goods. When you have a good hand against a calling station, bet for value-- these guys will pay you off.

Finally, the rake on a live 3/6 game is punishing. You should really consider playing at a higher limit because they often take the same amount in larger stakes games. (It costs the casino just as much for the cards, table, and dealer at a 3/6 table as at a 10/20 table.) But be sure to be bankrolled sufficiently for larger stakes.

Would like to add a follow-up

In a tourney, how is the best way to keep up with size of the pot??

Online we have the handy little pot total listed at all times. Not so in live poker. Most bets after the flop are a ratio of the pot. I remember the few times i did play that my bet sizing was terrible because i didn't accurately calculate what was in the middle...

Just count. There really is nothing else you can do. Observe more and memorize.

Yeah. Not much you can really do there. Just try to keep an idea what went in preflop. Simple as multiplying per person, then as it thins out it will be a lot easier.
