It's like Fisherman's Wharf out there... The funnest time i've had in a poker room. 1st off the poker room was very open(more like a poker area) and right by my hotel (New York New York). Since in my opinion MGM is still a pretty big tourist spot there was an ecletic crowd there but they all had one thing in common... They were all drunk! Everyone was pretty easy to determine what kind of player they were, but really all you had to do was play TAGG. People will call with practically nothing and draws. There was little to none waiting. 1st day: Up $500 from $100 buy in and 2nd day: up $700 from $100 buy in. There were around 30 tables. I also played @ Bally's $1/$2 NL... ... There was a wait for the table since there were only 15 tables and it was very crowded and claustrophobic. Everyone was playing pretty tight i believe since the cocktail waitress didnt come around to the tables that often. Came up around $250 with $100 buy-in. In the end I only ended up with $350 profit since i was playing BJ, Pai Gow, Mini Baccarat( damn those games). The only reason i was playing was to earn COMPS. If it was up to me i would play poker all day long but getting free rooms and food are pretty damn good as well. Well hopefully this will help anyone who reads this and let me know how you do!

Sounds great then! I used to get free rooms as the venetian, back when I played a lot of blackjack. Man, I miss that!

I was playing blackjack at the $25 and $50 tables, so we're right in the same range.

They probably do now, but in 2001 and 2002 (after 911) they didn't. Call a host and see though. You never know.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy the game there as much as at other casinos, even if I enjoyed the hell out of the room.

BustaMove,

With some more information we might be able to add the MGM to our http://www.flopturnriver.com/casinos_la_overview.html section.

From a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being the worst and 5 being the best), how would you rate the following:
Atmosphere (1 is a dive, 5 is classy and friendly)
Waiting List (1 means an all day wait, 5 is little or no wait)
Variety of Games (1 means no options, 5 means holdem, stud, omaha all at different stakes etc)
Fish (1 means all pros, 5 means there are tons of fish which is great for us)

It sounds like you'd give the Fish rating a 5 at MGM since the players were drunk and called with practically nothing.

Eric,

Every time i visited MGM it would be around nightime. Atmosphere: 4,
Not perfect but very open unlike most B&M's. Kind of had a hard time locating someone to put my name on the board but other than that the employees were friendly. Waiting List: 4, out of the 3 times i played there i waited only once and it took me within 15 min to get an open table. Variey of games: 2 To my understanding i didnt think i saw that many other games than Holdem. Im pretty sure though if you requested they could open a table up to your liking as long as there were players to support the game. Fish: 5, Every table i went to supplied me with at least 2 people who were drunk, 1 guy who thinks he's a pro but is obviously not, and a couple of tourists just wanting to have a good time. I hope this helps you guys out and be sure to tell me how its goes for you.

IMMRFISH,

The only reason im trying to get comps is that you can actually exploit the hotel's amenities pretty easily. Food, Spa, Free money (last time they gave me 100) and i've seen my mom recieve 500 in chips for free, even shooping sprees. it's ridiculous the things they do for you sometimes . i know its all based on amount of play but also your relationship with your host. Which exactly what im trying to establish since i've just turn of age.

BustaMove,

This is great info. Hopefully we'll be able to put up an MGM page soon.

Tyson, Xianti and I have several Vegas trips planned over the next few months. One of our goals is to add a lot more Vegas poker rooms to our Brick and Mortar review section. I added Stardust yesterday. Now it is time to add more rooms on the South side of the strip near the airport. Hopefully we can start by putting up MGM and then add more reviews after our trips.

If you guys want to put up a review for the Wynn, I can help you out. I went there about a month ago, and did quite well (up about $400 for 6-7 hours of playing). It's a great room, I loved it.

Highlights:

- 9 handed tables: I am not sure you'll find this elsewhere at a Las Vegas Poker room, but there are only 9 people at each table. I like this, because I think the games aren't excessively tight, but it also creates a lot more room.

- Good chairs: Everyone seems to love the chairs, as they are height adjustable, and very comfortable.

- Auto-shufflers - Every table is equipped with Shuffle Master automatic shuffling machines. In addition to 9 handed action, this makes gameplay pretty quick - at least compared to a 10 person table with a slow shuffling dealer.

- Attentive Cocktails Waitresses - While I didn't get drinks myself, the cocktail waitresses came around frequently.

- Dealers - I did not run up against any incompetent dealers at all. They were definitely the best of any room I played at. Some were very personable, others were not, but I'll take competent dealers any day.

- Ambience - I love the decor of the room. It's probably just because I like red things, and as a result the Wynn colors, but I like the wood paneling and the red carpet. Some people have called it "old-fashioned" but I thought it was really nice. I didn't feel uncomfortable wearing shorts.

The one shortfall that some of you may not like is that the players did seem to be pretty good. There were some fishy players who would come in with $200 and then blow it in 10 minutes, but not too many. I also played during the day, though, so at night it might be more fishy.

Also, in case you are curious, I played 1-3 No Limit. That's right 1-3, NOT 1-2. They apparently switch to 1-3 to stimulate action, though none of the tables I played at were action heavy. They also have $3 chips, which tend to confuse people, but I got used to them.

I think the thing keeping the action low here, is that there's no maximum buy in. In fact, there's an old guy (70s, probably) who sits at 1-3 or 2-5 NL, wearing a cowboy gettup (hat, bandana around the neck, vest), with at least a thousand dollars in front of him. He doesn't play in a crazy manner. I guess he likes the large chip stacks in front of him to compliment his young girlfriend.

All in all, it was fun playing there.
