Well they're two totally different things. KEM are plastic. While Gemaco are paper with a plastic coating, just like any other paper playing card.
It's been said time and time again. If you want to save money in the long run. Spend the loot on a set of KEM's. They will last a life time with proper care. Whereas paper cards will only last you about an evening or two of serious poker.
You should consider using paper cards if you run large multi table tournies. That would be more cost efficient. If you just have a small home game, 2 decks of Kem are good to go forever.

I have found little difference between KEM and COPAG besides the price. I had my first run in with Gemaco's last week and would not suggest buying them at any price. They have a cheap feel and mark easily.

GEMACO, KEM(USPC) and COPAG all make Plastic playing cards.
Gemaco
- Concistent Color, Bright white background, Stiff flex, Slight bend to the card, Smooth Finish, average pricing
KEM
- Inconsistent color, White Color background, regular flex, flat even bend to card, inconsistent finish some rough spots, most expensive prices
COPAG
- Concistent color, dull white background, soft flex, even bend to card and is flat, least expensive of all 3
**** I've used all three in home games on a regular basis and own all three now since I got the USPS/KEMs Arrows. The The Gemacos were a little harder to get used to since they are the most slippery of all three to shuffle. The Copags are the best all around cards at a great price. The local pricing of the KEMS in my area is outrageous. I paid about $30 for my double deck set of Binion Vintage Casino decks, while Gemacos are about $25-30.00 and Copags are $22-27.00.
