Researching a purchase of some high quality chips, and i'm having difficult working out how many i need.
The site i am currently looking at has these denominations:
.25, .5, 1, 2, 5, 25, 100, 500
and i wish to cover for a 10 player game, ranging from NL$10 up to NL$200.. and for SNGs, with 1500 starting stacks.. what amount of chips for each denomination would be wise??

Not sure about the cash games, but check out homepokertourney.com for your SNG's.
Also, how about some custom clay or ceramic chips?

I will tell you this one thing....
If that chick in your avatar is anywhere near your homegame you should be more concerned w/ the number of condoms that you have than the number of chips you need for your tourney.

lol.. yes good point, unfortunately though i have no idea who she is, just couldnt resist the site of a half naked chick with cards on her.. it had to find its place on FTR.
In relation to the chip question.. the ones i'm looking at are clay chips, they are the "modern clay" chips on buypokerchips.com (does that count as spamming? I'm not trying to promote them in any way)
I am considering custom chips also..

If you are considering custom chips, check out ChezJ's post about the custom chips he bought.

yeah man, i looked at the site and those modern clay chips are SWEET. however, for almost the same price, you can get your own personalized logo on real clay chips, like i did at pokerchips.com. the drawbacks are (1) longer wait time and (2) larger edge spots of only one color, which may or may not be a problem depending on your personal taste. if you are unskilled artistically, the in-house designer can make you a design for no extra charge. worth a look at least.
as far as denominations, i posted the quantities i got in the "ChezJ's custom chips" thread. works for me, both ring and tourney games. i think if you are going to plunge so much money into a set, you will be using it for the rest of your life. so it's probably not a good idea to get the denoms printed on the chips, as you will likely move up in limits eventually. i also highly recommend a visit to homepokertourney.com.

I also have some custom ASM chips on order.
Here are my mockups (I'm actually getting the horsehead mold and I decided to get blue edge spots on the white chips):

And here are my inlay pictures:

I really recommend getting customs. The first set of chips I got were the james bond blue chips (from same company that makes the modern clays). These are great chips (if you can look past the labeling issue with this particular set), but I really regretted not getting my own custom design.
If you need chips right away, I'd get a cheap set of super diamonds/faux clay from 5stardeal and wait 6 months for a custom pokerchips.com order.
Finally check out this site if you want to play around with ASM chips:

Note that the colors are way off though you should call for samples.

Regarding denominations.
If you're on a budget like me, consider getting a set that can be used for cash and tourneys.
With my current set of James Bond Blue Chips, I do T10000 freezeouts. I start players with 25 $100 and 15 $500 chips and don't color up.
For my custom set on order, I decided to change to T100 tourneys and start with 25 $1 and 15 $5 chips. I also bought some $.25 and $25 chips.
Here's my breakdown for 8 man tourneys and 6 man cash games:
.25 - 120
1 - 200
5 - 120
25 - 60
