I know this has probably been discussed to death but i would like to get an idea how others set up thier home games.

I have held two so far, one for co-workers and one for neghbors. Both worked well but i am curious if there is anything i could do differently or better.

Buy-in we do $5, seems to work for everyone so i wont change that.

Chips - everyone starts with $50 in chips 15 ones and 7 fives.

Blinds - we start at $1/$2, then increase each time the deal cycles around - 2/4, 4/8 and cap at 5/10

Deal - deal is progressice until first guy busts out, then he is dealer until next guy busts and so on.

With this setup our games last about an hour and fifteen to an hour and half.

is this a pretty standard setup, is there anything i should be doing significcantly differently.

Thanks for any input

Jason is an unknown quantity at this point
I like to play ring games where $5 or $10 will buy you the same number and value of chips they use on Bravo's Celebrity Poker - 50 chips worth $0.05 or $0.10 and 10 chips worth $0.20 or $0.50 (5 times whatever the lower amount is worth). Whoever is on the button deals and if you bust, you can rebuy chips. Blinds are either $0.05 and $0.10 or $0.10 and $0.20.

I used to run tournaments similar to that except increase the blinds, but ring games seem more fun because everyone can play and you don't have to worry about keeping up with the blind increases.

Buy in: $20
Rebuy: $20 (two max)

Chips: $20 (13 $1 chips, 14 $0.50 chips)

Blinds:
45 Minutes -- 0.50/0.50
45 Minutes -- 0.50/1.00
30 Minutes -- 1/2
30 Minutes -- 2/4
30 Minutes -- 3/6
30 Minutes -- 5/10
30 Minutes -- 10/20

We've never made it to 10/20 blinds, usually the players involved choose to not make it any bigger. I've had tournaments with 27 and 14 players, and both took under five hours playing this way.

Next tournament should be fun, I'm expecting 35+ to be here.

we do buy ins of 20
for 1500 in chips with 20 min levels
blinds start at 25-50.

each on takes about 2 hours but we are playing for fun
but the amount of chips lets everyone get some play.

$5 buy in

500 in chips.

We start at 1/2 blinds and increase as people bust out.
I'd like it to be quicker but the other guys don't and I'm outnumbered.
It's fine cause I just raise it accordingly pre flop.

We only have 6 guys and this way does last us a few hours. It's more about hanging out smoking cigars with this group anyway.

Operation Back to Basics
Goal: re-build BR to 1k from $25 by August 8th
Currently at: $200

Here's what we do every weekend:

$5 buyin

T1000 in chips
20 reds ($5 ea) ($100 total)
16 Green ($25 ea) ($400 total)
5 Black ($100 ea) ($500 total)

20 minute blinds:
10-20
15-30
20-40
(Break - color up reds)
25-50
50-100
75-150
(Break - Color up Greens)
100-200
200-400 (Tourney usually ends around here)
300-600
400-800 (Never got this far)

We allow unlimited rebuys untill the first break. Usually takes about 3 hours total, and we usually start up another once when we finish the first. A good night of cheap entertainment and good company.
I built my own poker table... Check It Out

We actually play ring games.

Buy in minimum is $5 and max is $20. You can buy in for as much as you're comfortable with.

We play $.25 $.50 blinds. I know that we should have smaller blinds or higher max buy-in's but the guys don't want to put more money on the table and nobody wants to play with "stupid blinds."

It kinda turns into monkey poker, but hey. That's what party used to be, right? :P

Too bad there ARE no implied odds, but it doesn't matter.

I can honestly say that I don't play with teh guys anywhere near how I play online. Firstly, I'd get BORED TO DEATH waiting for good hands, and secondly, like stated before, implied odds go through teh window. There are none, for all intents and purposes. :P

Oftentimes, I'll just post the money for limping in before I'm even dealt cards. A lot of the other guys are the same way.

I know that if we do that, it ends up playing like a game of war, but hey. I like war. :P and that way, at least we have some variation in the winners.

I actually am going to propose trying one of those fun little variations like criss cross or something next time. put everyone on an even learning curve, I was thinking. Plus, I think everytime I play with those guys, I get worse at poker. :P and that reflects online.

$25 buy in for 1500 in chips. No rebuys, no add ons.

Blinds start at 5/10, and go up every 20 minutes.

Usually have 15-20 people, and the tourney takes about 3-4 hours.

We do either $50 or $100, depending on the group. Normally $50.

No rebuys/add-ons.

Start with 2500 chips.

blinds start at 25/50, increase every 20 minutes.
50/100. 75/150, 100/200, 150/300, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, 600/1200, etc.

25-30 people....normally takes 4-5 hours.

Run 2 decks. Button deals while person to his right shuffles.

Well usually I have a couple SNG's with starting T2000 in chips, but I think this coming Friday I'm gonna have a $50 dollar buyin ring game with .25/.50 blinds. I'll see how it goes. Set up as such.

20- $0.25= $5.00
20- $1.00= $20.00
05- $5.00= $25.00
