I'm hosting a tournament, $20 buy-in. I'm expecting anywhere from 20-30 people, so, three tables.

I've had a lot of trouble determining several chip-related things...

- How much money in chips should each player start the game with
- What denomination should each chip color be
- How many of each denomination of chip should each player start the game with

I have 700 chips total...
50 black
150 blue
250 red
250 white

Any help would be much appreciated

I second that motion. With 700 chips you can do a number of blind schedules.

I just ran a home tournament this past weekend with 27 people. I bought 800 chips for the tourney and borrowed some for a seperate ring game.

I gave everyone $1000 in chips with the following denominations:

6 - $5 chips (blue)
7 - $10 chips (red)
8 - $25 chips (white)
7 - $100 chips (green)

I also had some black chips that I used as $500 chips. These came in handy later in the evening when the blinds increased as people could cash in the lower value chips and not have to count out as many chips on bets.

Another thing that I did that helped tremendously was printing out a couple of pages in large fonts with the chip values and current blind/betting minimums. I posted these where all of the players could see them.

Finally, I modified a document that I found here that went over most of what people needed to know. If you would like me to send this to you, or if you have any other questions, feel free to drop me an e-mail to j_hanes@bellsouth.net

Good Luck and I hope you have as much fun as we did.

Based on how many chips you have and assuming you max at 30 people I would recommend the following:

Start with
5 $10 Green Chips
8 $25 Red Chips
5 $100 Blue Chips

This would give everyone $750 in chips. You could then use the black chips as either $250 or $500 chips for later in the tournament.
