My friend invited me to a local poker game gathering and I gladly accepted but when I got their I found out they took a huge rake.. so the question is what is the average rake at your home games?

The ones I been to around here is 10% capped at $5, that's for 1/2. I always opposed the thought of raking a home game between friends. Rake makes such a huge difference so unless there are super donks giving away money, it's not even worth staying.

If its a home game amongst friends that is charging rake, fiend new friends.
If its a game at someones home and they are taking rake, its most likely illegal.
3 3 3 I'm only half evil.

it is.

but if you're cool with it at least request free drinks or a 'best hand of the night jackpot'. Your "friends" are making a stupid amount of money off of you.

That is the craziest thing I have ever heard of!? I have home games 2 maybe 3 times a week and I have NEVER charged a rake?! For one, its illegal, and 2 .. These are my FRIENDS! LoL

WOW....

At the most, I ask them to bring drinks... Thats as far as it goes...

JR9477 is an unknown quantity at this point
The only rake I want to see in a home game is in the garage. A rake completely changes the feel from a friendly competitive game to a seriously competitive game. A large rake would just make it feel cutthroat to me. It had better be loose to make it worth my while.

Though I've always been cool with friends to help them buy pop, chip in for food, or poker supplies.
