Hi,
I just registred, and I would like to thank the site administrators for a very informative and nice site!
Before I echo my questions, I'm not a native english speaking person, so bare with me :\ I'm from Stockholm, Sweden.
Anyway, I'm off to buy new poker decks and chips. Cost is no issue.
I'm going to order customized chips, with my own art.
But before I go spend money, I'd like to ask a few questions.
I read on this forum that the carddeck of choise is KEM, why's that? (generall) I saw the durability test, but durability isn't an issue for me. I'm all about the feel and touch. What type of decks does the bigger casinos in vegas use? I understand Bee Club Special is a popular choise. I guess the quality decks are pretty much the same? (material-vise).
And as for the chips, I'm troubled. Archetype vs Real Clay? Or is there an other material that I havn't read about?
Many thanks in advance..

KEM's are the most popular choice for cards if you ask poker players this is because of the feel/durability of the product. Copag is a strong second choice at about half the price and almost as good quality. Everyone I know who has used either of these cards (for a single night) has a hard time using anything else.. they ARE that good.
Chips are always going to be personal prefference, for me nothing beats the feel/sound of old style clay chips. The top of my want list looks like this:

I *think* people choose KEM's because they are plastic and durable. Supposedly you won't ever have to buy another deck of cards in your life.
As far as chips, I would go with clay. More expensive, but a much better looking chip. You have plastic and clay composite, neither which compare to clay, in my opinion. Read some of the stickies on the board though, to get something that suits your needs.

Okey, but what about the Archetype ones? Real nice grafics printed on them.
I never ever considered composite plastic.

I'm also in search of a company that provides nice custom art on chips. And I'm not talking about simple 'stickers in the middle' ones.
(This is not a lazymans question, I'm simply curious of what you guys rekommend.. I've searched the web and I have found quite a few companys myself..)
Many thanks for quick replys.

My friend and I are in the process of ordering custom clay chips from www.pokerchips.com . I hear they are pretty decent, and have okay prices (.50/chip) for the two-color clay chips without custom graphics in the middle.
The ones with custom graphics will obviously be more, but if cost is not a factor then go for it.

also...think about what gram of chip you want. This will range anywhere from 8-13.5 grams. I prefer a 9-9.5g chip, but if I were you I would see if I could get my hands on a couple different chips that vary in gram size. That way, you won't be surprised at the size of them when they send them to you.

as for chips, i just have 11.5 gram striped suited chips, the plastic kind with the metal slug in the middle because...well...cost is an issue for me, but clay is the way to go, and so is personalized artwork, and someday i hope to get some. but listen to these guys, they know where to look.
as for cards, Kem are the choice. you might have some trouble finding them lately due to a company buy out, there should be more on the market in febuary from what i hear. if you want something similar though, i hear COPAGS are pretty close to Kem. most people play with Kems because they are the cards used in the WSOP and they were the kind used in KGB's place in the movie Rounders. they have a great feel and are just choice to play with. i have three decks and will never go back.
Bee's are nice, for lower end cards, but they are made of paper and coated with plastic, whereas Kems are 100% plastic, or celluose acetate (sp?) to be exact. not only do they last longer, but they also have a more professional feel. in any case, it's up to you what you want to play with.

Hello flow and welcome to the forums. I believe I posted a sticky at the top of the forum that has a guide for poker chips.
If you want a totally customized chip. Then ceramic style chips will afford you alot more leeway as far as custom design go. Alot of Casino's use these style chips as they can be more durable than clay in certain instances.
Casino's also use KEM's alot for poker games. The WSOP uses them too. They just don't take the beating Paper cards do.
So for your personal home set up. I would suggest a 600 chip set with two decks of KEM cards. And it will last your life time.

KEM decks it is. I liked the Bee deck due to its backside, I loved the way the covered the whole back, and left out the white end-border! I suppose there isn't any custom KEM decks that has the same back, is there?
As for the chips, I think I'll be following mr spooks suggestion, looks about what I'm looking for.
Thank you Shauneyzboyz for the suggestion, I've ordered samples from different companies already.

Just a little suggestion. I rotate 3 decks of different manufacturers at my home game to prevent cheating. <ay be a little paranoid but I get a lot of friends of friends playing so I like to switch things up so people know that cheating is not an option.
Gemaco, KEMS and Copags are the ones I use.
