Foxwoods fans,
So, what are the chances of getting at a table early afternoon on New Year's Day at Foxwoods?
My father-in-law and brother-in-law like to play blackjack at Mohegan Sun, and they've invited me to join then for the trip down. So I'm considering asking if they want to move their plans to Foxwoods on the chance I could catch some low-stakes NLHE there.
But I'm guessing my chances are nil and I should just start reading over the BJ strategy cards again. Mohegan has all table games, AFAIK, so everything's going to be -EV...

Well a newbie trip report on the result.
First time playing poker at a Casino - got in on a newly opened 1/2 table at Foxwoods (max buyin $100). It was a lot of fun, though I was disappointed with my discipline as I got caught up everything. It started with a bang.
Middle position, I'm dealt Q6s and see that everyone is just calling the bb so I decide what the heck and get in for the first hand on the table.
Flop: Q9Q, with one Q and the 9 clubs.
Pot is about $16 (yeah, like 8 callers to the bb)
When it comes to me I throw in $25, not wanting to see any more cards with possible clubs, and happy to take my set and go. The gal behind me raises it to All-In for both of us (since we've both bought in at $100). I blinked at that, but was so caught up with my set that I called without thinking it over too much.
She flipped over 99 and I figured I was about to see my first buyin die.
Turn was trash
River was the case Queen.
Yep, quad queens to start the day. It was pretty much downhill from there. I played pretty decent for a while, but the table was so loose that I loosened up way more than I should. I ended up going All-In against a guy who was already on his fourth buy-in or so, pushing against people with all sorts of things. With the table 78T and me holding pocket jacks, I put him on another reckless push. He showed A8, but caught his Ace on the turn to wipe me out.
After that I played overly tight, disappointed in myself for loosening up so much. Overall that was my take-away. Playing live in the casino was a lot of fun, but I have to remember to keep my head together if I don't want to be donating money for my entertainment.

the 1/2NL game at foxwoods is basically a crapshoot since its the lowest NL and everyone wants to try it out
The 2/4 limit game is also a crapshoot but solid tag play here usually wins. The 4/8 and 5/10 games are juicy and the ones if you are serious to focus on.
And if you are any good at stud, the spread 1-3 and 2-5 7 card stud (hi only) are really worth it for your next trip... people calling bets where they can't beat the cards shown
And ironically, last time I went, there was a 3 hour wait for holdem so I played 7 card stud... and my second hand I got quad queens (queens in the hole, queen on 5th street, case on 7th)

Thanks for the advice. I'm enough of a newbie that $100 buyin is exactly right for me, and I guess until I improve my discipline I belong with the crapshoot players.
7-stud kills me because I try to keep track of all of the cards and can't... and that's online without straining my eyes to see what's on the other side of a table.
I was strongly considering Omaha Hi/Lo, which I'm played some of sucessfully and found that typical NLHE play gets eaten up.
Oh, humor value: Floorperson comes by and looks at our table (almost all young folks) and asks for ID from everyone but two guys with clearly greying hair. He does a double-take when he sees my ID (I'm 35) until I take off my cap to show him my balding spot.

I never played the omaha game, but I watched it for a bit and saw everyone chasing the low and 5 people folding the river to a single bet when no low draw hit. Looked really good
Never heard about them asking for id like that... I'm 21, but look older, and never been asked for id there. Maybe it's their new years resolution to be more stringent with id

The 1/2nl at foxwoods is free rent money. I've been playing it for months now, and while my online game is pretty flat, in that game I clean up.
I think it's about adjustments, there are so many different styles and types of players there. Any given table can be really tight or really loose, but most of them can be manipulated. If they're too tight, straddle and make a few gamb00l moves to keep everyone excited. If they're too loose... well just tighten up and get paid off.
A few days ago I was at a 1/2NL at the woods and there was a guy two to my right who was incredibly loose and lucky. He took a couple of big pots off of me, and I was bending over backwards to get into hands with him. I got a good portion of my money back before some ass on the other side of the table ripped into him for sucking out. The guy tightened up so fast... I've never seen anything like it. I was pissed, the whole table tends to follow when the laggy guy tightens up. I stuck around to take a couple stacks from the donky that killed the action, then left because the table just wasn't so good anymore.
Also, I switch tables sometimes if things are not looking good, but 95% of the time, the 1/2NL at foxwoods looks DAMN good.
