Local Red Man's Revenge B&M 4/8 game.

Had dinner there, was kinda pissed off about paying $17 for it. I thought casino food was supposed to be cheap?!?!

So I buy in for 2 racks at $200 (I really wanted $400 in front of me, but my bank wouldn't clear it.) That worked out well though as protocol is to have a rack in front of you and to rebuy as needed. I sit in and totally play the newbie (not hard, as most of it is genuine, except the part that matters *cackle*.) I sit in the CO and am surpised that I'm told I don't have to post after asking.

First hand I lost:
I fold my first orbit. Gets to my BB, I have K3s. Kid (20s, kackies and a nice shirt) asks if I chop. "Sorry, I don't chop." SACRILAGE. He raises. I call. Flop misses me horribly. He bets, I fold. He shows JJ.

First hand I won:
I get 99 in the CO. LAggy or TAggy looking guy who's scary silent, has a diamond of chips and seems to know what he's doing raises from EP. Folded to me. I don't feel particularly like folding after going around the table once with junk, so I cold call?!?! Flop is Ace rag rag rainbow. Good flop for me. He bets. I squawk RAISE! and as I fumble with chips with my shaking hands he folds before I manage to get 8 chips accross the line (playing 4/8 with $1 chips takes getting used to.) I can only imagine what bigger pocket pair he mucked. It took so much self-restraint not to show.

Random Hand:
I get AKo in the SB. Talkative fat chick who knows the dealers by name comes in from the BB. Folded to the Kid who raises, I 3-bet, fat lady calls?!?! Flop is a bunch of co-ordinated middle cards. BET! Kid folds, fat lady calls. Oh #$*% what I would give for a random hand right now. Turn puts out 3 to the straight. Check, Check?!? River puts out 4 to the straight. Check, Check. I show big slick, she shows A6o and MHIG!

After a couple hours of tight/passive play I start to get comments about being the table rock and having the most chips. With the fat lady + a loopy 30s guy bitching about bad beats on my left and the kid on my right I decide the table conditions are backwards for opening up my game and decide to rack up my chips and feel good about winning my first session. It's funny how all of the online experience maps. Immediately upon looking at my hand + action I have a plan and I'm pegging people on playing styles.

Net for the evening + $116 (about 2 hours of play)

Great job. Congrats.

Just don't let live play spoil you.

Remember, you can play online in your underwear!
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Nice reverse tell here with the shaking hands. Did you fake that, or did it come naturally because of the unfamiliar situation you were in?

I've thought of faking shaking hands when I play against my friends who have a clue and/or have read Caro's book. I just don't know if I could make it look natural enough. I've faked a quick glance at my chips right after the flop before against the most tell-observant of my friends and made him lay down a solid hand. I love reverse tells. Useless against most people though.

Congrats on a nice session, btw.

Lots of interesting things came together on that hand.

The flop was such he either had an Ace, and really liked his hand or he would think he was on 2 or fewer outs.
It's a spot I'd where I would consider bluffing in an online game. I didn't hesitate at all.
I'd set up the image of a player incapable of bluffing and I was genunely awkward backing up the "tell."
I was dealing with a player I thought capable of "figuring me out" and laying down a hand.
If called, the POR with position was to check behind on the turn, grabbing 2 shots at a set.

Was I correct in not showing there?

VERY correct in not showing.

Hold'em isn't an ego contest. Get your moves in when you can and don't show anyone your tricks.

You better believe it. As you yourself has said before, poker is a game of deception. You've got your table image right where you want it....something totally different from what you are. Why mess with that?

Sounds like you did good. Nice exploitation of table image there.
If I had a hammer
I'd drop in the morning
I'd drop in the evening..

Nice job, Fnord. Glad to see you're branching out into the B&Ms.
There's a rush you get when winning big pots in live games that you just don't get online.

Good job Fnord, I can only hope I do remotely as well my first time out.
I am off to Vegas in 2 days and I'm excited about sitting down at a real table. Although I have only been playing online for a couple months...I have been syudying my ass off - so there is a possibility I will hold my own. If not....it was a learning experience.
