I'm going to be stationed in Pensacola FL in a few months, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good poker rooms within a reasonable distance. All I've seen so far is a greyhound track

Not sure how far you are looking to drive but Biloxi in Mississippi has several Casinos most of them have poker rooms and you can find a good 1-2 or a good 2-5 game. It'll probably be an hour ,hour and a half but a lot of people from P-Cola drive to Biloxi to play.

the problem with florida cardrooms is that the law limits how much a player can bet in a given round. believe it or not, the limit was $2 until recently when the limit got bumped up to $10. you just can't defend a hand if you're forced to stop betting all the time. this also seriously crimps your upside.

i believe the law only allows fixed limit betting in cash games, though this might have changed with the recent update.

finally, florida cardrooms are only located at racinos or (weirdly enough) at jai alai facilities.

hopefully someone from florida can illuminate us with the latest info.

The Hard Rock is in Hollywood not Miami.

July 1st the laws changed and they now have 2/5 spread NL and higher NL also.

The Racinos can now be open 12 hours a day and also now offer NL. Prior to July 1st there were only $2 limit games and they could only be open days when they had live racing.

The poker room at the Isle of Capri is beautiful they have about 40 tables and it's no smoking. Located at Pompano Harness Track in Pompano Beach.

Mardi Gras Resort and Gaming in Hallendale Beach (formerly Gulfstream Park)

Dania Jai Alai also has a poker room.

No, it ain't Vegas, AC, or even Biloxi... but it IS just a 30 minute drive away for me.

Some recent, very friendly Federal court rulings have opened the doors for higher stakes poker and other casino table games. The Tampa Hard Rock is already creating new space for the additional tables.
