Im going to go to a casino in MI on sat, and itll be my first time. The lowest stakes there are $1/2 blinds with $200 max buyin. Ill probly just take $200 to avoid losing too much money though. Any tips?

Thats good to hear. Set camping and only playing big PP's AQ+ a good range? Or would playing loose in position be good to stack someone when you hit big?

Enjoy it. I started going to my local casino recently - it's great fun and I go regularly now. I play the equivalent of $10 rebuy.

Be prepared for plenty of egotistical people talking crap at the table and posturing. Obviously, ignore this and play your normal game.

Plenty of people who've played a few times like to think they're the shit and I'm happy to let them think this - in the few times I've been to my local casino , I've only seen a couple of players that I rate.

The first time I went to a casino I played my A+ game, adjusted for the overall worse level of play I was going to encounter.

This was a mistake (the playing my A+ game part). I realized that I go to a casino so infrequently that the amount of hands I get in are almost irrelevant. Now when I go my primary goal is to have fun, have a few drinks, and just avoid playing stupid instead of concentrating on playing well (and doing it this way can still turn a profit--albeit a smaller one--at a casino because your opponents are so bad at poker).

Of course, you should be playing your best game if you plan on going frequently enough the treat it as an investment instead of a fun activity.

Either way have fun, and good luck!

Well after playing for 5 hours i ended up being down $110. Its hard enough just to keep up with the rake there, which is $6 every half hour. I started to do kinda bad at first, missed flops after raising pf, firing a cbet and getting reraised, things like that. Then I was up to $105 at one point in the game and took a bad beat off this douche bag.

In the hand i had like a $120 stack ($100 max buyin) and had wired 7s. It gets limped around and i believe im in the bb with 4-5 other callers. Flop comes 752 rainbow. I bet $15 into the pot and get one caller (The douche bag). The Turn is a 4 and i check hoping to induce a bet from a higher pocket pair or A7. After i check he goes all in for about $60 in chips and i call. He flips over A3....

Then later the same guy busts me when i have a shortstack around $35. I have ATs in MP and i bet $15 pf and douche bag is the only caller. Flop comes all low hearts (i dont have any hearts) and he checks so i move all in for $20 and he calls me with a flopped flush of 42.

Other than those two hands i had fun and think i can definately come out ahead of the rake at least if i play there again.

I play 1/2NL at Ceasers Indiana where they also time rake @ $6 per half hour. Much prefer a pot rake ...time rake kinda screws the low stakes NL player, especially if you play TAGish.

I try to be careful about paying off vs. opps who will call for any draw. I also don't see much point in playing loose just because the rest of table is... i.e. the 7.5x bet with ATs in MP. Game sounds pretty similar to the 1/2 game at Ceasers.
