Went to the casinos here in Lake Charles,Louisiana this past weekend and came to found...im a natural born river boat gambler....didnt really have any money to play any poker so i headed down to the blackjack table...
walked into the table area with only 40 dollars in my pocket, found a 1 man seated 15$ minium blackjack table....threw 15$ down and said let's see what type of dealer you are, well the bets got placed and the dealer flops down 21 for me...the sweat pouring from my palms just began placed the winnings to the side and kept 15 out there....2nd time around he flopped me 11,i hit and caught another 21...i wasnt even nervous no more,i said im gone, got my money and headed to the second boat for the poker tables....
bought in for 50$ and got a seat for the lowest stakes limit hold em game(3$-6$-12$).....first hand, caught big slick....i threw it away since so many people limped in.Played solid position poker for 1 hour and got ahead about 150$...i left the table and got on one of the only 2 no limit tables in the casino...minium is 100$ to sit......played good position poker for another hour and found myself up another 100$....this continued to about 800$!!!!!!!!.......i was nervous as hell the whole time, but whenever i got comfortable with the play is when i started losing big time....i dont know if i got to big headed or was losing focus&pateince. But i started playing a lot of hands, then this guy from the other no limit table got moved with alot of chips...about 2000$ maybe more maybe less, but he killed me with this one hand.

Two boats, sounds like the Lake Charles Harrah's with the poker room on the Star side. What a nasty little casino that was. The new L'Auberge du Lac absolutely puts the other two Lake Charles casinos to shame.
I remember when I began gambling at the casinos here in St. Louis. You have to be 21 to gamble here and I am only 24 now and I gamble professionally for a living now. Stocks during the day and gaming by night.
While being 21, the only time I gambled was just for fun and very sparatically. I worked in the mortgage business and I was doing quite well. I played low stakes, never more than a visiting bankroll of $50. I remember the first time I played blackjack, I knew the basic rules, but didn't know what the hell I was doing, the table would yell at me for splitting my 2's and hitting my 14's against a 6. I would just be like, let me play.
In any event, things changed, I got laid off and I had free time, I took up poker as I had played home games for many years, I quickly excelled and developed a bankroll, before I knew it, I was a professional gambler, I never went back to work, it's been over two years now.
The nervousness goes away quick. The instant you no longer look at chips as money and begin to only see them as units is when you really know that you're a gambler. I still play poker often, however I make the majority of my money playing craps now. A few lessons for those embarking on a professional gambling career or even just wanting to take your gambling to a new level...
Have limits. Have an amount you are willing to stake and LOSE in a single visit. In addition, and in my opinion more important, have a limit of what you are willing to win. This was the most difficult lesson to learn as I never knew when enough was enough and to color up and leave. I'd give back everything and then some. When I attempted to set myself limitations on my winnings, I began to win and win often. I've never played many games with many people who have appeared to have learned this lesson. I see everyone in every game possible always give money back. It's because they don't know when it's enough. I've gone on runs at a blackjack table that have gotten me up 10,000. I ride the streak, but when that streak is over and I see myself giving back money. I'm done, color me up, the luck has run out. I'll take my 9,000 and go home an estatic winner. However, one time I saw a guy win about 6,000 on a single 45 minute roll at a craps table, and proceed to give it all back betting max odds every time when the dice have gone around the table twice without someone throwing a winner or two. It's just sad. Set limitations on both ends of the spectrum, you'll do well.

The new casino sucks,i live here in Lake Charles...but the only reason i say it sucks is because it has no poker room right now.Its pretty cool to live in a city with some pretty big casinos...if i lose 100$,i can go home get my mind right with a nice fatty and go back and not worry bout the bad beat, learned that most of the people there are to gamble and play big hands since they are from out of town...The past 2 nights i been punishing these types of players..lastnight it took forever to catch that monster but when i caught i sucked every penny and dime i could suck out from them suckers(300$) ...And i have done what you said, the more i limit myself of how much i wanna win then leave..it has worked well, tried it out before reading your reply and it does work. Some old man was almost wanting to fight after i stung a nice pot and cashed out...dont blame him tho i probably would have 2,i didnt even give him a chance to win it back lol
