Hey
First post!
This is kinda long sorry but how do you guys feel about this situation?
Last week I turned 21 and for my birthday me and my friends went to a casino to celebrate. First time I ever sat down at a live poker table before. It was a lot of fun, but this one dealer we had was being buddy buddy with everyone at the table. Then this hand came up. A guy from early position raised and it was folded around to a old fish guy in the small blind and he called. The ep raiser was kind of short stacked. The flop comes down 97Q rainbow. Both players get it all in and the ep raiser shows KK and the sb shows 97s. The 97 holds up and the old guy starts talking about how the only reason he called preflop was because the guy with the kings had only a little amount of chips. In my head I am thinking that is a terrible reason to call with that hand preflop. But then, the dealer starts telling the guy that he was wrong and discussing implied odds with the table. I didn't talk the entire time but I was just thinking: what is this dealer doing giving advice to players? Isn't his job just to deal cards?
I didn't say anything because I felt like it would have been a dick thing to do. I don't think it really helped the fish guy but should dealers really be saying that kind of stuff? And is that a normal thing in live poker?

No dealers should not be giving advice or talking strat. The floor manager should have broken his knees.

Yeah, bring it up with the floor on your way to the bathroom.
If you make a habbit of slipping him a couple blue chips, you'll get listened to.

I was playing in a live T. The first level, players had been aggressively raising every hand. So, it was mid level 2 before I picked up a hand. I raised in EP 3.5xs BB. The dealer said, oh she must have something big, first pot she has played. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
The dealer should NOT have said anything. Sometimes, the dealers feel they should give suggestions to inexperienced players about odds, etc. I don't like it.

Holy schnikes, that is totally inexcusable behavior from the dealer. You should have immediately said, "Hey! Only one player to a hand." That is in the house rules of every B&M cardroom on the planet.

A mean look and a whisper to the floor when on your next "bathroom break" will look less snooty and get the reaction you desire.

Trust me, it never happened again.
But as a side note, there was a semi-pro playing and at break, he came up to me and suggested that I always limp early if possible or make a small raise at level 1 and then fold if necessary, just to make sure not everyone knew when I had a monster. He said that he had been watching me (eeek) but everyone else had ignored my play. He and I both said something to the dealer on the break.

The dealers in Australia are too stupid to do something like that. I mean really... some of them are flat out splitting a pot. lol
If they did I would be telling the floor straight away and have them pulled up about it immediately. I don't think we are allowed to tip the gambling staff here so the only way to get a good relationship with the staff is to become a regular and always remain professional (that is, not behave like a douche).

You definitely did the right thing and I agree with just about everyone else talk to the floor next time you are up from the table.

Sounds like Mr. Semi-pro just wants to play lots of pots when in position.

Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.
