So i went to the mgm this weekend and tried out the 1/2 tables. I bought in for 200 since i've been working with 100 bb's deep for a really long while
The dealer let me sit in UTG and get a hand for free without posting. Was I suppose to not get a hand there?
My first hand i got dealt TT UTG so i raised it 4x to $8. All of a sudden I get 3bet by the chip leader and someone shoves over the top from the blinds. Standard fold for me and the two guys get it all in. They flip over 68s vs A4o. wat?
After that, I pretty much folded for an entire orbit because i was card dead, but i noticed that everyone was opening for like 10-30x the BB. What am i suppose to do? I don't even get a chance to play some post flop poker
All in all, i was up the session. Picked up AK and some high pocket pairs and just shoved over the oversized preflop raises and my hands held up when they called. A lot of people called shoves with seriously ATC. If they were folding anything, it'd be the bottom 20% of starting hands and they were playing/calling AI bets with the rest.
Anyways, is this how a lot of low limit live poker games work? Or did i just get a crazy drunk/donk table

30xBB is live standard ldo, and you do get to play post-flop poker, it's called shoving
standard live poker

TT hand is fine without reads. Giving up early with the best hand is just part of big bet poker.
Once you get a feel for the game, this should be a stupid easy game to beat if you gamble smart and are comfortable with money. For starters, it will play nothing like the 100bb onlines games. When people are opening big, fast and loose hands like KQo and AJo go way up in value and you should committing to good hands and threatening commitment.

We were in Vegas last month. If you run into that go find a different table/casino. Just about all of them have 1/2NL now and low buy-in tournaments. We enjoyed playing at the Rio (it's off strip but it's a good room). Also the Sahara (but it gets a lot more locals).

Why would you not want a table of easily exploitable opponents like that said in the original post?

If you can afford it you might. But the way I read it the guy was getting bet off every hand by higher chip stacks, therefore not even getting a chance to play his hands.
Whether it's that or for some other reason if the table puts you on tilt it's better to walk away and find a different table. IMO

Order a drink, pitch a tent and let the equity flow in.
Easy game.

Posting before the blinds get to you in live poker depends on the casino (and the location). For example the Harrah's in Kansas CIty doesn't make you post, but the one in St Louis does. Just depends...
