I've been playing limit holdem at the casino closest to my house. They FINALLY ADDED NL HOLDEM! Its been a long time coming but I'm so exicted. So I am going to play on Monday. Its a 1/2 game with a max buyin of $100. Any quick tips for NL live? I do well online shorthanded, but I'm not used to the 50bb stacks. Also what do you open for live? I know that 4x won't work like it does online.

At the local hole-in-the-wall cash game, anywhere from 4x to 8-9x. Same 1/2, but with higher buyin. However, I am always open to suggestions, as it seems you are.
BTW, where are you located? I live in northern IN, and am looking for a casino closer than Windsor. I know there are some in MI, but wanted some opinions on them.

I live in West Michigan. I still have to travel about just under 2 hours north to get there and its not that good of a Casino. I'm only 20 so its the only one I can play at. If you want a good Casino travel to either East Chicago or Detroit. I turn 21 in 3 months so those are the places I'll be playing when I do so.

You'll figure out what to open for after seeing what is normal, but typically it is higher then online. Typical raise was usually $10-$15. Lots of limping, sometimes just 2x-3x raise. I play in a live 1/2 $300 max game. I find tight play works best as so many people will be in every hand Find the ones chasing draws or who call down with second and third pair. I don't consider myself a great ring player by any means, but last time I was the only one at a full table who had a clue. Good times and won 2 buyins in ~3hours.

I guess my live NL experince will just have to wait another day. I think I'm spoiled by online poker. The casino is about 1hr and 45 min. away (and its snowing) and to play poker I can simply roll out of bed and get in the computer chair about 3 feet away. I really couldn't think of a good reason to drive to the casino when I can play so much easier at home.

I'm only 25 min away and I still don't go as much as I should because online is so easy. I do enjoy playing live for a change of pace though.

I played live LHE and I like live expept the room I play at:
* Is smoking
* I have to pay more rake
* I don't get any of that rake back (the comps are a joke)
* I have to tip
* I'll have to wait over an hour to get on a table
* I have to pay for gas to get there and back
Theres a laundry list of other reasons not to play live and when I weighed them again playing online, I just decided to stay home.

but the key difference that i've noticed is that live, the pockets are deeper with weaker players that will constantly reload
