Guys wearing sunglasses at friendly live games are douchebags IMO. I play at $200NL and noone there is watching your eyes, and they wouldn't know what to do with the information if they saw it. They are only wearing them because they think they should because they see it on TV.

in my friendly games we all wear them - and stupid shirts and hats, plus cigars and bourbon. But thats because we're all sad f*ckers who think its funny.

I wouldn't wear them at a proper cardroom or casino - I'd feel too much of a cock.

At a local cardroom where I sometimes play, donks are also referred to as "caps" or "shades" - even if they don't wear them.

Take it for what it's worth.

Don't take it personal. He's thinking purely scientifically. In a card room the probability of douchebagery is directly proportional to the number of cranium accessories. This does not mean that you are guilty of douchebagerism, just that you are statistically more likely to be one.

So then poker players like Sammy Farha, Chris jesus Ferguson, Hoyt Corkins, Stuey Ungar and many others who wear shades at the poker tables are statistically more likely to be lacking in cranium accesories?

I don't think it's good sportsmanship, no matter who does it. Of those you listed Chris is the only one who always wears shades.
Also the tells you conceive are miniscule. Chris and Hoyt got their body language under control. Your average shade wearing donk shakes like a pig on death row when he hits his draw and his head disappears between his shoulders when he feels uncomfortable, not even a burka could save them from themselves.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZ! Wrong!! They all still wear sunglasses at the poker tables except for Stuey Ungar, he's dead now.

You should brush up on your reading comprehension I said "who always wear shades" Sammy and Stu only wear/wore tainted glasses - and not always. It's not like these guys can't conceive their tells. It's more of a style thing than anything else.

Tinted not 'tainted' glasses are still shades/sunglasses with just less tint. But they are still referred to as 'shades' or 'sunglasses'. Plus my reading comprehension is just fine thanks.
Maybe you should brush up on your 'spelling'.

I used to wear shades when I was a n00b. Now, I only wear them in casinos if I'm playing stoned and feeling self-conscious about the bloodshot eyes.

More interesting question for those of you who sometimes wear shades: What does this do for your table image when sitting down at your average 1/2 game? At bigger money games? Do you find this useful?

I always sorta thought wearing shades makes the biggest of fish, the table ATMs and such, tighten up against you at 1/2, which is exactly the opposite of what I want to have happen. But I don't wear em.

Anyone else experience something different?

Maybe at higher levels? And wearing ridiculous hats or something maybe?

I rock sunglasses at the casino sometimes, no particular reason except I always used to do it when I was a noob. Friendly games I usually dont. Never felt like it affected my action, allthough a couple time it made me misread a board and cost me big pots.

nah. but, i do show up with a partypoker hat, pokerstars hoodie (which i pull over my head when in a hand), and when i win, i...

go "wakka wakka wakka" with my little shark marker right in the face of the loser.

i think if i wore shades, they would think i watch poker on tv and am therefore good or something. i likes to fly under the radar.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!

both very legitimate reasons to wear them.

I am heading to my local room now, so will look and see what type of people wear them, what effect, if any, it has on their action, and if they are in fact, douchebags......

I expect that they will have little impact on action as people at 1/2 play cards, not people. I also expect that it will be mostly douches, or at least people with douchey tendencies (making the obvious exceptions for new players, and the stoned/paranoid).

I will most likely forget all about this by the time an hour has passed at the tables though, so take this for what it's worth.

I totally agree with that they hide your eyes and make you harder to read and I also agree with that they allow you to read other players better.

However, I have yet to wear them because I think everyone will think I'm a douche bag.

Ok so during my session last night there was one man wearing them and I also saw one guy with them on hand at the table.

I hate to say it but the guy screamed I'm a douche nozzle.

sunglasses are ridiculous imo unless you use them like ISF...he went to a 10/20 game in the wynn and wore blantent women's sunglasses. He said, "imagine how tilted you would get if you were leveled by a guy wearing these sunglasses?"
ISF while watching me play: "Wow, you're really butchering this."

Honestly, I've worn sunglasses once while playing poker and only for about 5 minutes cuz I did feel pretty dumb. I try to avoid wearing anything on my head when I play. No hat, sunglasses, etc. I dunno why, but when I have something on my head or face I feel like I'm focusing more on that than the game. Maybe that's just me. I got no problem with people wearing them at the table, I'm not gonna judge them. Let them do their thing. That's just my 2 cents.

I've worn the FTR hoodie live, but mostly because it was freezing in the card room. Sunglasses arent me, so I don't wear them except outside. I don't really have an opinion on those who do, I've seen donks and good players both wearing them in a casino.

I don't wear them in ring games, but did used to wear them in the occaisional larger buy-in tournament. Even then, I would sometimes plan on wearing them and decide not to, or take them off after a few minutes if it felt too douchey that day, the room wasn't well lit, etc.
