Different players have different preferences, in regards to how many people they like to play poker with at any one time. The rewards for winning a hand are certainly larger at a crowded table, but smaller tables seem to offer better odds of a victory. What are your thoughts on this?

Assuming a reasonable rake and no short handed specialists, I prefer tables that are 7 handed or less.

I play better full ring, because my nitty tendencies that frustrate Fnord so much work better in full ring, and also because the rakes in California are terrible.

That said, IF I get a shorthanded table full of real fish, I can generally rape them by just being the only reasonably aggressive player at the table.

One of the things I have to work on in my game is ratcheting up the aggression in short-handed games. Right now, I find it easier to be patient, take advantage of position, and punish the second/third best hands when the game has six or more players.

I’m aware that while the variance is higher, a good player can clean up in a short-handed game, and want to get better at this.

I have found it to be a lot easier to bluff at smaller tables than at full ones, since everyone seems to be looking over their shoulders when they aren't confident enough in their hands, and it seems pretty easy to freak them out.

Jason is an unknown quantity at this point
With larger tables, it's about winning fewer pots, but larger ones. With smaller tables, it's about winning more pots, but smaller ones. I can play either way, but I tend to like 7 or 8 myself, too. I much more care how many fish are playing and where are they sitting?

I usually find myself to be extra cautious when playing at largely tables, especially if I know that my hand could easily be beaten. More players means more possible threats, but i'm just paranoid anyway
