I gather theres a few members play there. Just wondering if you could give me some info? Many poker tables running? What stakes are available? Are the 'std' buyin amounts? Do players tip dealers/floor etc here? Whats the process for getting a seat/etc? Good times of day, days of week, etc?

I'm still a while off heading there for a game I guess, but starting to get the itch. Just need the BR first.

There's always 2/3 and 2/5 even 9am on Tuesday, but most nights theres at least 20+ probably as many as 50 on friday/sat night

50c/1NL, $20-50, but these are on machines (it's called pokerpro) without dealers and chips each person has a screen with options and there's a big screen in middle. Basically like 100NL online but the players are worse than 1/2c players.
1/2NL, $40-80 buy in, 10% up to $15 rake, only runs mon-thursday
2/3NL, $80-200 buy in, 10% rake up to $6, $5/hr time (what I play)
2/5NL, $200-500 buy in, unsure about rake etc.
as well as 5/10/str, and some PL/Limit omaha(hi and hi/lo), limit holdem, manilla and occasionally on fri/sat a 100/200 nl holdem

Sitngos run every night and there are different MTT tournaments every day. Check website for details.

50%-75% buy in for max others buy in for min or some random amount

Nope they don't take tips (they get paid 25/hr though)

Basement level is the poker room, walk in past the pokerpro tables to a desk, talk to whoevers there put your name down for desired table. Your name flashes on a list and they send you a message when tables ready. You get a ticket from the desk, collect chips from cashier and sit down on the table.

Thursday/Friday/Saturday night are filled with awful players (on 2/3 and 1/2 anyway) after night out, on holiday or after the footy. Usually basically no wait time as once the list gets to 10 people a new table opens. People at 1/2 are willing to stack off so lightly, I built my roll from 1.5k -> 4k in a month playing 2/3 times a week(although I didn't take any significant bad beats). I posted a couple of the worse hands in thread of bad.

I've nothing to compare it too but the whole poker part of crown seems really well run to me.

Feel free to ask any more question.

Wow, buyins seem low. So theres 100nl, but I can only buy in for a 50bbs on a machine?

I was assuming I'd start at 200nl, thinking once I get 20 or so buyins up. 80 buyins is only 40bbs though? Am I reading it right? I might be better off holding off until 2/3 where I can buy in at least a bit deeper.

Ya 40bb deep is the max and the rake sucks balls. Most of action is preflop and on the flop as standard preflop raise is usually 12+.

Hmm, pretty dissappointing. 2/5 sounds pretty good but my rolls a long way off affording those games .

It's been a long time since i last went so...

Rake + time charge is insane sick imo

I remember the max buy in for 1-2nl being $60 (pretty sure about this as I complained though it may have changed since) and $200 for 2-3nl

Obviously evenings/nights on weekends and Friday is busy/fishy

I’m half considering giving live poker another shot in the near future and crown is my local. Like I said it’s been a while since I’ve been and I feel I’ve improved a lot and would have a definite edge if the games are as fishy as I remember despite the fact that I still suck and I hate the structure. I’m kinda spoilt having been to Vegas last year when I was 19 (didn’t get carded) and playing at bellagio and cesars. Let me know how you go bjsaust and I may see you down their one day in the near future.

Ya it's $80 now was changed maybe 1.5 years ago. Problem is their is no competition so they can do what they want and still have the room packed every night. Still it's much, much better than star city(sydney) though.

Rake's not too bad on pokerpro(and no time charge) and even my calling station friend can consistently crush the game. But I wouldn't be traveling from ballarat just to play 100NL even if the game is that soft.

I travel to Melbourne one day a week for work (Thursdays) so my plan for starting out was to go for a few hours after work on those days. If I actually started winning lots maybe look at special trips, but like you say I'd want to have pretty good expectations from it for that.

The crown casino is the coolest place everr. On tuesdays they sell these gigantic cocktails for half price...mmmmmm. The arcade is where i spent most of my time when i went there though, although the poker room is fairly good too, lolz.

The "poker pro" machines are okay but the b.i is only 50bb as mentioned above, and i think there kinda silly tbh. I play live to play on the real tables, with the real felt, real dealers and real chips..not to look at a lame screen and press buttons, i could do that at home. I didn't play to much poker when i went but with the little amt of time i spent playing 2/3, i could see how easily the game could be beat..yeah there we're plenty of noobs.
GL with ur first crown poker experience.

Hmm, whats the process for rebuying if you need to? Either because you get stacked, or simply drop a few bets and want to top up?
