Hey guys.. Within a few weeks the Turning Stone in Ny is hosting a college night NL poker tourny only for college students. I was wondering if anyone has ever participated in one of these (Not at Turning Stone though, this is their first one)? Im expecting to be a lot of fish and then some people who know how to play. What do you guys think?

Is it freezeout or Rebuys and Add-ons? What is the blind structure? These are the most important questions. If it is R&A I would stay away. The blinds will rocket skyward and you'll probably be playing a bunch of drunks.

I don't care how technically good you are at poker, the tournament structure ultimately has the biggest affect on your chances of cashing. What is the buy-in?

I can imagine a mix of some solid players and a majority of college dudes out for free casino drinks.

I recommend that you avoid R&A tourny and stick to buy-ins of $100 or thereabouts. You also want blinds that increase every 30 mins or more preferably 40-50 mins.

Othewise, pony up the low entry fee and 4 rebuys/addon and enjoy some coktails but your chances of cashing for serious money are more likely in a slot machine or craps table.
Send lawyers, guns and money - the sh*t has hit the fan!

Im not sure how much drinking there is going to be, it is 18+ to gamble and I'm sure they'll be relatively strict on the drinking.

There is no rebuys or anything like that. The total trip is 60 which includes bus transportation to and from the casino, 25+5 entry into the tournament, 25 in additional chips, and 5 for food or something like that.

I'm not sure how the blinds are going to be strcutured. As of now first place is taking home over $1400.

Even if the tourny is a bust I'm sure there is going to be some good cash games around the casino from kids who busted out of the tourny early.

Jan 29. Its a college invitational thing so you need to be in college. But the cash games will probably be very profitable.

Yeah.. I placed 22 out of 160.. They only paid up to 16th place though.

I dont think I did too bad for my first tournament... There is another one next week that I'm planning on going too.
