Is there anybody in here from the Cleveland, Ohio area that knows anything about the Charity events that they are going to be putting on in the Flats? The only thing that I have heard about them is what has been in the Plain Dealer. Around 30 tables charging $5-$10 per hour but I have not heard what kind of limits or if they are going to be hosting tourneys. It is easy to find games around here but they are all limit and mostly $5-$10. Playing those games is like playing $0.01-$0.02 on-line.
We really need to leaglize gambling here in Ohio!!!!!!!

Cleveland here as well. The Nautica thing should be decent, but it sounds like its going to be ring games more than tourneys so we shall see.
As for the "Charity" events that have been raided recently, most if not all have been run by outside companies and that is who the AG is targeting. The problem in Ohio right now is that both the AG and the Liquor Control/Department of Public Safety are both raiding places, and both have different interpretations of the law. Local cops can also bust games but usually won't screw with the VFWs ect. that hold the games.
I'm an officer at my VFW and ran a monthly tourney for about year, but when the busts started we stopped, for now. The state began investigating club gambling with instant bingo like tickets about two years ago, changed it from a misdemeanor to a fellony to get caught, but then turned around and allowed clubs to purchase liscenes for $5k a year, and required them to turn over 50% of the profit to the state, which holds 5% and sends 45% back for distro to charities. The state VFW and American Legion and what not petitioned and got the law somewhat relaxed. They are currently doing the same with the poker tourneys, and I would expect that within the next 6 mo. to a year, the state will pass a new law regulating them, and most of the worries will be over.
As the law stands now private clubs CAN host the games leagally, provided all the money is properly accounted for and goes to the proper charities. However, there is a gray area and clubs are getting in trouble for other related offenses. Serving Alcohol to non members is a big one, as is paying outside people for working/running them. So far, out of all the busts, alot of money has been confiscated, the state refuses to give receipts, but no charges have been made against any club/person because it probably wouldn't hold up in court.
Ok, so that was a longing winded way of still saying what mike4066 said "Buyer Beware"
If you want to play look for games that are
1. Run by the club members, not another company.
2. Aren't selling Alcohol
3. Aren't highly advertised
4. Don't keep a large portion of the buy-in
If you do this there's a much better chance of being left alone.

Thanks for that post, pretty intersting to hear whats actually going on around here... all we ever here is xyz place got raided, cuyahoga county should have enough tables to start their own casino
They still run "vegas nights" at CAK and a few other places around here, but those won't be around long.
Pretty soon the only thing left around here will be home games.

For anyone in and around Cleveland, you probably already know this starts up this weekend.
They finally posted some info about the games
http://www.nauticacharitypoker.com/info.htm
looks like $2 and $5 limit, single blind, no BB on the turn and river
and 5/10 single blind normal limit
The tourneys look better, but it still looks like it will have to be very fishy to beat the rake

Thanks for bumping this..
looks intersting.. not sure how I feel about the 2/2 and 5/5 limit game though.. intersting.
But I like the idea of a single blind in a 5/10 game.. It might be time to go get my "Rock On"

Had a buddy that went down there for the first day, Thur at 4pm and I guess it was packed. He said he got lucky to get into one of the SNGs most of the players were terrible. They started with $2000 in chips 25/50 blinds...raised every 20 min so it was definately Turbo Style play. He also said that within a 1/2 hour of opening, there was about a 2 hour wait to get in a game.
The cash games are also litteraly cash on the table, not chips.
I'll probably check it out eventually, but not more than once. Hopefully, after a couple weeks they iron some of the bugs out, and the crowds thin a bit.

30% rake on those tourneys...
$15 hour table time...
Volunteer dealers meaning play will be slow and probably less than 30 hands per hour. I just can't bring myself to do it.
