whenever anyone taps on the table to indicate a check, always know that they have nothing. As hard as this may be to believe, I've never once seen anyone check like that and actually have a hand they will call a bet to.

I do this all the time. I mix up saying "check" and the karate chop (I do this because it's clear, I hate uncertain check gestures.) As last to act I'll often say "check is good." I often have nothing there, so it might be a tell, but if I check as last to act I'm almost always weak. I have all kinds of tells, but have never had a problem getting in a check/raise, so I don't think this is one of them. I also will represent hands with my body language.

Completely untrue. I do it all the time and have seen others do it all the time too.

I do it all the time, depending on the noise level in the room.

yea i wouldnt go around always using this tell, i personally mix up saying check and taping the table and it has nothing to do with my hand. Just because you have noticed this a few times doesnt mean its a universal tell or anything.

I don't think ther's any rule to whether a player taps or not to check but watch each player(and build a mental notebook) on different ways they check and then rebuild the hand to see if they tap one way w/ a strong holding and another w/ aweak holding.
example: lightly taps two fingers(showing weakness means strength) or turning hand over and tapping strongly w/ back of hand(demonstitive check usually means weakness.
No two players will be the exact same which is why you need mental notes for all your live game foes.

Well i have been playing for awhile and i play with a regular group of people. I now realize only one of them does the tap check and this tell holds true for him so sorry for the generalization.
