I live in Massachusetts and enjoy playing in the $1/$2 NL games at Foxwoods. But the hourly fee of $5 / half hour or $10 / hour at Foxwoods is starting to bother me. If I end up playing for 12 hours, I'm losing $120 to the house right there.

So I was wondering if there are any good small stakes NL cash games in Massachusetts? I am less interested in tournaments than cash/ring games.

I live in Worcester and work in Marlborough, so anywhere between those points would be ideal. But I'm willing to drive further if the game is good. Southern New Hampshire and Northern Rhode Island or Connecticut are also possibilities.

$1/$2 NL seems to be about the right stakes/limit for me.

I'm looking for something that isn't too shady - like a game in a bar, club, or possibly someone's home. I'd rather not have to bring a weapon to survive, if possible.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Nope, not yet.

They are far enough away from where I live that it will take a somewhat large effort to get there. I know Foxwoods is always open, so it is easy to schedule that. It is harder to schedule a trip to a bar in CT on a weeknight. Also, I'm a little concerned about New Haven's reputation as a bad place to be.

But if I can't find anything closer, I'll make the effort sometime.

Of course, if I was meeting up with someone there, it would make it easier .... Have you been?

I met this guy from Auburn (near Worcester) last Friday at Foxwoods. He told me there were a bunch of cash games in Worcester. He told me to just go to a website to find out where they were. The website I thought he said was "mo better dot com".

www.mobetter.com

Seems to be some advertising/web company. I don't think there is a list of hold 'em games there.

I've tried different combinations of "mo", "more", "better", "bettor", and so on.

Now I need to find that guy again .... Damn it! So close.

It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

I'm in the same area as you.
Last week's Worcester Magazine had an article on the technically-illegal home games including urls (I think the same ones that Rondavu lists, but maybe some other ones too).
If you end up getting into some, post back with your experiences. My schedule generally doesn't let me do that much, but maybe someday...

My wife told me recently that the Tin Alley Grill on Route 9, Framingham was having Texas Hold'em Nights. I haven't called them up to see what the deal is yet. My guess is that since they're so public, they'll be using the "proceeds go to charity" loophole that has been used by other public hold'em games.

Hmmm ... that sounds interesting.

I haven't used much of the information you guys have provided yet. I appreciate it all, though.

It's kind of annoying that the Worcester poker meetup is only once a month. And it's on the same day as the Milford meetup and the Boston meetup. Seems like it would be better if these were staggered. It's also on a Tuesday, which is weird.

Dunk, if you end up calling Tin Alley, I'd be interested in what they say. The amount it costs, how many people usually play, and so on would be useful.

Okay, I decided to go ahead and call.

Their number is (508) 879-2822 if you want to call them. The person who answered the phone had the rundown, though the accent made it a wee bit difficult to understand.

time: Tuesdays, one starts at 7pm another at 9pm
cost: free
prize: top winners get gift certificates (presumably to the restaurant)
players: usually three tables full

So might be a match for newbie types like me, but might not be interesting in comparison to a real cash game to more serious players. Of course, if you're a fan of their food and work nearby then maybe that's a shoe-in.

pine ridge golf course in oxford has been having a tourney every thursday at 7
I was told by someone who played you need to show up around 6:15 to get in since it fills up it is 35+5 for the tourney and they start NL cash games when people get knocked out.

The tourney sounds a little expensive for me. Do you know what the structure of the cash games is? These sound interesting.

But this wasn't bumped for the sake of bumping, right? Does it at least have some information that can be used today? Doesn't have to be locked, IMO ...
