Hi!
I'm going to buy some chips for my home game, planning on max 10 people and want to arrange "wpt style" tournaments.
What kind of chips do you recommend? How many? How many of each color? How many colors?
Thanks!

Depending on the amount you want to spend. For 10 people, you'll need about 500 chips minimum. Depending on price, you might as well get 1000 so that all the chips match.
I'd get no more than four colors, five at the max. I'd try to limit the tourney to three colors of you can. if you buy 2000 chips (not very expensive at 3¢ per chip), then I;'d add a couple more colors just to have them on-hand.
Price: In quanitities, you can spend as little as 3¢ per chip, or as much as $1.15 each (new Paulsons). There are PLENTY of ddecent chips in between these prices.
If you are not a chip junkie like some of us, I'd just get as many of the 3¢ chips as you can. Get a good case for them ($39 to $50). Don't get the cheapest alum case, because you'll end up buying a new one soon because of quality issues.
3¢ chips: http://pokerchipsdepot.com - look at the 7.5 gram diamond chips. I own a bunch myself, and I vouch for them. I like them BETTER than all the 11.5g varieties. Don't get hung up on weight no matter anyone says.
I recommend getting either their 1000 or the 2000 rolling case. the flatter ones. I have one, it's really nice and sturdy. I've gone through four cheaper ones, they're not worth the wasted money.
If you dont want these chips, I think your next step for a better chips is the Nexgen at almost 10 times the price of the ones above. After that, we can talk about a lot more choices in the 50¢ and higher range.

Once you decide on the chips you want to buy, let me know. Then we can talk about how many of which colors to buy. You'll want to do it right the first time, or you'll end up with a bunch of blue chips that never get used, and you'll always be out of green.
