I've been looking to get some fairly cheap chips, as I received 60 bucks cash for Christmas that I have nothing else to do with (I'm also willing to put in a few bucks, but I'm not looking to spend over 70 or so). Basically I need some chips to take back to college, so I can stop stealing my dad's set.
My question is: is buying off eBay reliable? The feedback ratings of most of the big sellers are pretty high, but has anyone had any real bad experiences? I figure that for my price range, looking for 500 chips or so, eBay is my best bet.

Just check out the feedback of the sellers. Alot of the companies you see selling chips on the internet also sell on Ebay.

You could try the NEXGEN chips. Check out 5stardeal.com, they are offering 25% off until sometime in January.
I've heard good things about the NEXGEN's.

I got a set of 500 super-diamonds(150 white, 150 red, 50 each of blue, gree, black) for 40 bucks(well, it was a present from my parents that I bid on). They are very good chips and that's probably the cheapest you'll find them.
The seller is ctideals. I think they are a wholesaler that sells a lot of junk, but I got the chips and they're just what I expected.
I just checked ebay and they have a ton of sets listed...the shipping is 25 bucks, but that's to be expected...the highest bid on a set right now is 6 bucks, so you ought to be able to get a set for around 30 bucks.

Yep I saw em too. 300 11.5 gram for 44 is what I saw. I think buyung two of these is a deal since online purchases almost always involved serious shipping due to weight.

5stardeal sells a lot of their chips on ebay anyway. That's how I got mine.
|
|
I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway.
Whatever it is...
I'm against it.

Shipping does cost a lot, but most of these sets are going for 5 bucks or less, so you'll be getting 200 more chips for the same price as the wally world set.
Like I said in an above post, I got a set of these and they are pretty good chips. Nothing fancy, but they get the job done.
This same set is constantly being auctioned by the company. The company is a little shady, but I got my chips less than a week(about 4 days) after I payed online and the chips were exactly what was advertised.

I ended up ordering 500 chips from a seller, and things worked out very well. Shipped in a week from California, so it's not bad. Good chips, only 55 bucks, shipping included.

I got a great deal on a 1000 chip 11.5g set on ebay from 5stardeal. I got the chip trays that went with em too. I think It was about 60 or 70 including shipping. I even got custom chips (Mets colors). The trick to the ebay (everyone probably knows anyway but this was one only time i learned it,) Is to look for the price of completed auctions and see just how low you can get them for. Most seller (like 5stardeal) put the same sets up for auction repeatedly. I found about three sets i liked. The one i got apparently had lower interest because even though the starting asking price was the same, the final price on the set i got was lower. Made the choice real easy. Then Its just a matter of winning the auction with the amazing price.

ebay has been very reliable for me. I have bought a few different set for around $30.
If you are skeptical about this check out a price club such as BJ's, Costco, or Sam's Club. They frequently run sales where you can walk out with a 500 chips set for $50-$60.

Kmart ran an add for 500 chips for $39 on March 20th
You can probably save $5 on Ebay, but with Kmart you've got some guarantees.
In any case, you should be able to find a cheap set of 500 chips for less than $50....Ebay for certain.

Yeah, a lot of the retail chains are hopping on the hold'em money train. And selling ready made home tourney kits. So if you're not into quality, just go there.
I personally think that if you're gonna have a set up. Have the best set up you can afford to have.
