The usual game. Hand is $1000 deep.

New table just started. It's orbit 3 and I haven't played a hand yet.

Semi-tight passivish guy in his 40s who obviously plays for fun but takes the game fairly seriously limps from EP.

I make it $50 with from late position.
One of the blinds call.
Limper calls.

~$150 in the pot.
:Ac:

Checked to me, I bet $100, blind folds, limper says "300!" makes a bit of a show of moving his chips in.

I really don't think he's super-strong here. I think he's bluffing or over-playing something. Then again, I haven't seen him go too crazy and he did limp from UTGish. Then again he knows a bit about my game.

Am I crazy for not wanting to fold? Shove over here?

I agree. I'm thinking he's on two pair (maybe A9?) and maybe is concerned about you being on a flush draw. I'd let this go.....

ppl rarely bluff/raise on Ace high flop. The minimum he has here is TPGK like AQ +. Do you see this guy fold these hands before ? Any history between you and him ? There are lots of stuff you need to figure out before you shove here.

A "Semi-tight passivish guy in his 40s" isn't on A9 here. His most likely holding is a PP and probably 55 or 99. Your read indicates that he isn't doing this with TT-KK or a draw, so I fold and let him win one. He's probably not folding enough Aces and honestly your equity sucks too.
Playing live . . . thanks alot Bin Laden.

Depends on my reads on the guy. If you don't want to play the hand, then just check behind flop.

Bet/fold with the option of a second barrel but likely giving up unimproved isn't that bad of a line. When I went with the hand in the first place I figured I could bet 2 waffles on big card boards and show a profit. I like to start leaning on people early to figure out if I can get away with it and build up mistrust in case I do actually catch a hand later.

Tricky part is figuring if he's full of it here or not. What kinda tilted me is that he played pretty fast and loose for the next couple hours and that certainly wasn't my read going into this hand.

Figuring out bluffs is something I'm working really hard on. It's tricky because you have to wait so long between hands you have a natural tendency to find a reason not to fold.

Now that you know he can switch gears it is time to play some poker, but given your read at the time. . .
