i have noticed that in the big poker tournaments on TV like WPT, they have blinds and antes. in my regular home game, we only use blinds. what is the concensus about antes with you guys. is it standard and i just missed the boat, or is it just too complicated for a bunch of drunk guys on a friday night?

Antes are often introduced late in big tourneys to encourage action.
I don't think they're necessary in small tourneys.

Yeah. Even as you get later on some online MTT's you'll start to see an ante. It has the same purpose as blinds. Antes also help thin the field faster than the blinds will, as everyone pays the ante. This way people can't just sit back and cruise into the money.
Definitely not needed in small home tourneys.

I don't bring antes into home games less than 20 players. Blinds are sufficient for single table, 6-8 player games.

thanks for the advice. i think that with the usual crew i draw, about 10 to 15, i will stay away from the antes. the new blind schedule i have come up with seems to suffice.
